Sea Cadets are at the London Boat show all this week. And on Friday cadets are on hand to help with the Olympic Gold Medalists racing on STAR class yachts, taking place dockside at Excel. Cadets are manning the safety boats and helping with the judging as 15 Olympians including Iain Percy, Andrew Simpson and Pippa Wilson compete in three special races.

Racing starts on Friday and continues till Sunday with three races taking place each day between 11am and 2pm. Winning presentations will be made by First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope with BBC’s Nick Knowles on Sunday at 230pm in the main hall and including London Navy Board Cadet Jessica Burton telling the audience what Sea Cadets means to her.

Visitors to the boat show at London’s Excel Centre can also see one of the original Trinity 500 craft which took part in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant last year, when 55 Trinity 500’s manned by 200 Sea Cadets led HM The Queen’s Royal Barge up the Thames. Sea Cadets to row around the world in 80 hours

Sea Cadets from across the UK will be attempting to row the circumference of the world (24,900 miles) in 80 hours between 18 April and 21 April 2013, raising vital funds needed to help them replace their tallship TS Royalist.

Coinciding with an attempt by the Sea Cadet HQ team – who will be rowing a Trinity 500 along the canal network from Abingdon to the Thames – cadets from some of  the 400 UK units will be taking to rowing machines at approved British Rowing Clubs to help reach the target.

Sea Cadets Awarded by The Queen!

Sea Cadets Awarded by The Queen!

Jan 2013

Sea Cadets are thrilled to announce they have received the coveted Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award 2012.

To mark the Diamond Jubilee, 60 recipients were announced today through a joint Buckingham Palace and Cabinet Office Press Notice. Our nomination was endorsed by The First Sea Lord, highlighting the amazing support we enjoy from the Royal Navy.

This award is recognition of the great work that Sea Cadets and our volunteers do, and we are immensely proud and honoured to be recognised in this way.

Captain Sea Cadets, Captain Mark Windsor, RN said, “This award is the icing on the cake for what has been an incredible year for the Sea Cadets, culminating in our 55 boat diamond formation of boats carrying the commonwealth flags in our Patron HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Thames River Pageant in June.”

Former Second Sea Lord now Trustee Sir Alan Massey KCB CBE said “I'm absolutely thrilled for all those who have made this happen through their tireless efforts!”

President MSSC Admiral Sir Peter Abbott GBE KCB said” This is wonderful news and so well deserved, a grand way to end a grand year. Many congratulations to you all.”

There will be a chance to visit Buckingham Palace in late Spring 2013 to collect the award formally.

Ends.
