Sea Cadets in Merton got a special visit from Boris Johnson, London Mayor today when he made a flying visit to the unit to meet 100 young people and volunteers from eight Youth Uniform organisations that make the YOU Matter Program. He was launching

In plans outlined by the Mayor today, thousands of youngsters will have the opportunity to join uniformed groups like the Guides, Scouts and Cadets. The £1.3 million programme, being run by the Safer London Foundation, will help young people to develop vital skills, helping them to get a head start in life.

Congratulations to SSO for London, Cdr (SCC) Noel Wheatley MBE RNR has received an MBE in HRH the Queen’s New Years Honours list for his service to the Sea Cadet Corps. 

Congratulations also go to Lt Cdr (SCC) Phil Burns MBE RNR and Lt Cdr (SCC) David Lewis MBE JP RNR.  Phil received his for his services to the Defence Industry over many years and David received his for services to the community in South East London.

A new digital magazine, called Current, for cadets has launched today available via facebook.com/SeaCadetsUK and sea-cadets.org.  The launch coincides with the release of Fleet, the magazine for volunteers which will be landing on doormats this week.

The magazine formats and content reflect feedback from focus groups with supporters, volunteers and cadets.  Being delivered at no extra cost, utilising efficiencies made by the refreshing of the Seafarer Magazine and Annual Review

Sea Cadets helped CVQO Patron, Dannii Minogue, celebrate being presented with her honorary doctorate in Media from the University of Solent at HQS Wellington, London on Wednesday.

Representing Sea Cadets were AC Luke Short from City of London Unit and LC Dani Qais from Haringey unit.  Also present was POC Charlotte Robinson, a finalist and prizewinner at this year’s Duke of Westminster Awards, an annual competition run by CVQO to reward the most outstanding cadets across the UK.

Of being a patron for CVQO Dannii said, "The biggest thing about CVQO is giving young people who want to further themselves a chance, and to provide mentors who want to help them along the way. It’s incredible to see the enthusiasm from the cadets and to see how they develop throughout their time.”
