Sea Cadets boosted by new minibus!

Sea Cadets boosted by new minibus!

19/12/2013

Christmas has come early for over 1,000 Sea Cadets from local units in Gloucester, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and Bristol. They have received a brand new minibus, thanks to a generous donation from the WPA Benevolent Foundation. The unveiling of the new minibus took place at noon on Wednesday 18 December at Sea Cadets South West Area headquarters in Bristol.

Sea Cadets were present to welcome and thank their supporters from the WPA Benevolent Foundation; Chairman, Mr Julian Stainton and Director of Good Causes, Charlie MacEwan.  The Foundation is already supporting the Sea Cadets in Cornwall and earlier this year helped to deliver a new boat training centre for cadets at St Stithians Lake in Cornwall.

24 lucky Sea Cadets that were on a TS Royalist voyage in September were filmed for BBC The One Show! The footage will be shown on tonight’s episode (Thursday 5 December) on BBC One at 7pm.

In September The One Show filmed cadets on TS Royalist, as part of the First World War commemorations. They were comparing the life of a teenager during the First World War with a teenagers life in 2013.

We will also have nine Sea Cadets and one RMC that were on TS Royalist during the filming in the audience on tonight’s show.

It’s also available on BBC iPlayer for the next week.

NEW FLAGSHIP DESIGN SAILS THROUGH WIND TUNNEL...

NEW FLAGSHIP DESIGN SAILS THROUGH WIND TUNNEL...

27/11/2013

A 1:15 scale model of Sea Cadets new flagship sailed through wind tunnel tests at the University of Southampton. Shipbuilders, Astilleros Gondan, and the Marine Technology and Industrial Aerodynamics Wolfson Unit put the fully rigged model (approximately 2m long and 1.6m high) through sail optimisation and performance trials in the large, low speed section of the university's wind tunnel. Watched by Sea Cadets during their offshore voyage on TS Royalist, the model ship was tested at different wind angles, with rig configurations from full sail to bare poles. The test proved that the mast position and centre of effort, sail size and shape, brace and sheet leads is correct and successful.

The new flagship will launch the sailing season in March 2015! Find out more about our new Ship Appeal
