Sea Cadets has been selected to benefit from a share of £10 million from the Uniformed Youth Social Action Fund, the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne confirmed today.

Sea Cadets as well as 14 other youth uniformed organisations including Girl Guiding, St John Ambulance and The Scouts Association, were selected to receive funds to encourage young people living in disadvantaged areas or hard to reach communities to get involved in social action by joining uniformed youth organisations.

Martin Coles, CEO, says “Sea Cadets are delighted to be one of the charities selected to receive such an amazing investment. This means we can reach out to even more young people with the incredible opportunities we offer. Across the UK 14,000 cadets are challenging themselves and developing new skills through nautical adventure for the best possible head start in life.”

Hartlepool Sea Cadets have secured the future of the unit, thanks to a generous donation from Hartlepool Youth - a grant giving organisation. Local solicitors Square One Law helped to draw up the contract. The £100,000 donation ensures that they can buy the building that they currently lease.

Paul Harrison, treasurer of Hartlepool Sea Cadets, said: “This is a fantastic location for Sea Cadets and we could not have it any better, being so close to the marina and all the facilities we have here. With Hartlepool being such a proud maritime town, we have an active unit and securing ownership of our building means that we can look forward to a very exciting future.”
