Mayor and Trustees of Margate - Cheque...

On Monday 17th February 2014, a selection of cadets from each division of the Unit accepted a cheque from the Mayor and Trustees of Margate which was granted to the unit to pay for the lighting on the Quarterdeck/Parade Square.

Cllr. John Edwards met with cadets and staff and saw for himself how much the donation to the Unit will make a hiuge difference.

On befalf of the staff, committees and more importantly the cadets, we extend our sincere gratitude to the Mayor and the Trustees for their kind donation.

Good Luck - Not Goodbye

Good Luck - Not Goodbye

Thursday 19th December saw (WO2) Tony Bryant's last night attached to Margate Unit. Tony takes up his post as CSM of all Royal Marine Detachments of Southern Area and is a well-deserved promotion after more than 20 years at the unit.

During this time, as well as being Commanding Officer of the whole unit, he single-handedly started the Marine Detachment and has commanded that side of the unit since its inception. He is a true inspiration to all and will be missed.

It was a great moment when the Unit presented Tony with a cheque which we hope will cover the cost of the Warrant Officer's Ceremonial Sword which Tony is required to wear when on parade and performing his ceremonial duties.

On presenting the cheque, Officer in Charge (PO) Les Brett - 1st Lt. of the Unit, thanked Tony for his years of loyal service and in reply Tony explained "I was expecting another decanter!”.

Best of luck in your new position in the Corps and we will miss seeing you although you will be assured of warm welcome when you come to visit us - with the sword on your hip!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all at Margate Sea Cadets. The last cadet night of the year was a great success with every cadet being treated to a relaxing, fun night as well as presents and a chance to sit on Santa's knee!

Ably assisted by his two elves (it's not often you see a 5'6" Santa and a 6' elf!), the visiting Santa came travelling from afar and was a welcome visitor. Hope to see you again soon.

Seasons greetings to all staff, UMC, P&SA and finally the cadets. Wishing all a peaceful and merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you on January 9th 2014.

New Lighting Thanks to The Mayor of Margate

New Lighting Thanks to The Mayor of Margate

You may have noticed something different about the unit since Thursday 19th December 2013.

New LED lighting has been installed replacing the dusk-to-dawn lighting which used to burn from 15:00-08:00 in mid-winter causing a huge spike in the cost of electricity to the unit.

The cost of replacing the lighting was met by a grant from the Mayor and Charter Trustees of Margate. The unit cannot thank Mayor Cllr John Edwards and his team enough for their generosity which will have a lasting impact on the running costs of Margate Unit for years to come.

On behalf of staff, the Unit Management Committee, Parents and Supporters Association, and most importantly "The Cadets", we thank you for allowing us to make this alteration which is tremendous!
