OFFSHORE YOYAGES

We would like to wish AC Green & MC Reed the best of luck as they venture down to Weymouth to board TS Royalist and partake in the Small Ships Race.
 
 
PO Goddard was also volunteering on TS John Jerwood last week, we hope she enjoyed her time at sea and can't wait to hear all about it on her return to the unit.
 
 
We also welcome back LC Hards- Morris who has enjoyed himself and learning about the training power vessel, TS John Jerwood.
 
Cadets are fortunate enough to gain life skills, teamwork and leadership throughout their Sea Cadet career and going off-shore is a lifetime experience that they will never forget.
 
Thank you to the team of adults onboard all the training vessels, ensuring all cadets get the best out of their time away but most importantly having fun whilst doing so.

SPEAKERS DAY WINCHELSEA

Speaker's Day Winchelsea
 
 
Yesterday, our Lord Wardens Cadet had the great honour of accompanying the Lord Warden of The Confederation of Cinque Ports, Admiral Sir George Zambellas, alongside fellow Lord Warden's Cadet from Hastings Sea Cadet Unit, at Speaker's Day in Winchelsea.
 
 
Speaker's Day is an annual civic celebration, hosted each year by one of the seven Head Ports and Ancient Towns of the historic Cinque Ports.
The day began with a parade from The Greyfriars to the Church of St Thomas the Martyr, led by the Surrey & Reigate Drums and Bugle Corps, AKA The Ex-Bandables. The parade was a wonderful spectacle, with Mayors, Town Clerks, Mace Bearers, the Lord Warden, Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex Mr Andrew Blackman CStJ, the High Sheriff and the Admiralty Judge all taking part. Even the horses in a nearby field seemed to join in, galloping alongside as the procession passed.
 
 
On arrival at the church, the service began with the Speaker's Chaplain, Rev'd Nathanael Hayler, being presented with the Silver Oar of Admiralty, which was placed upon the alter, followed by the other Mace Bearers.
Readings and prayers were given by the Lord Warden, Rt Rev'd Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Bishop of Dover and the Speaker Mayor of Winchelsea, David Page.
 
 
At the conclusion of the service, the procession was led out of the church by Admiralty Sergeant, with both cadets proudly taking their place before joining the official group photographs in the church grounds.
 
 
A fantastic opportunity for both cadets to represent the Sea and Royal Marine Cadets and to take part in an important civic occasion within the historic Cinque Ports.

TOWN HERITAGE DAY

Margate Towns Heritage Day at TS Jamaica
Last Thursday at TS Jamaica, we had the privilege of hosting Margate Town's Heritage Day, welcoming VIPs and dignitaries, members of St Johns Church, our UMT, and the parents and families of our cadets.
 
 
The evening began with Colours ceremony followed by a service led by Father Denis, assisted by four of our cadets. A special well done to AC Green, LCpl Green and Cdt Stemple for their readings, which they delivered with such confidence and maturity.
 
We then began the first part of the evening by celebrating ordinary people who have done extraordinary things at sea.
 
Cadets AJC Goddard-Masters and JC Gosden shared the story of John Cornwell, who displayed incredible bravery during the Battle of Jutland in 1916.
 
OC Couzens then told the story of Steve Doorey-Williams, a local man who recently saved three children who had got into trouble in the sea near his Bayside Cafe in Dumpton.
 
Steve, a former RM, has also very kindly donated his uniform to our unit. it was proudly displayed on our main deck for guests to see during the evening.
 
During stand easy, guests, staff and cadets had the opportunity to mingle and enjoy some delicious hot food, cakes and refreshments, all lovingly prepared and served by our wonderful volunteers.
 
Everyone then came together for the final part of the evening, where LC Bradley, Cadet Drill Instructor, led an engaging drill squad demonstration. Between movements, he explained the history of drill and why it remains such an important part of cadet life and the uniformed services.
 
He even got our guests involved, demonstrating some basic drill movements with them. What a fun and engaging way to showcase the discipline, teamwork and tradition behind drill.
 
 
The evening concluded with Evening Colours and presentations and celebrations. Congratulations to:

This is a fantastic recognised award that our cadets can continue to build upon and be proud of as they develop their skills and experience.
 
We also had a very special Recognition Award presented by DL Clive Stevens Lord-Lieutenant of Kent to CFC Brooks, who, using his learnt skills of first aid, bravery performed CPR on a stranger and continued to do so until paramedics arrived on scene. Brooks should be extremely proud of himself, as his unit is of him. Brooks demonstrated the ethos and values of what makes a Sea Cadet! Well done!
 
 
A special well done to our unit & town Standard Bearers; AC Lloyd and MC Reed who represented the unit with pride.
 
 
BZ to everyone involved in making the evening such a memorable success. From our cadets and staff to our volunteers, families and guests - thank you for helping us celebrate the heritage, traditions and achievements that make TS Jamaica such a special unit.

MERCHANT NAVY DAY

Merchant Navy Day & Monthly Divisions

Last night we not only held our monthly divisions, but were also honoured to host a special service celebrating Merchant Navy Day, organised by our Unit Padre, Father Denis, and Unit President/Royal British Legion, Margate Branch Vice Chairman, Lt Cdr Kevin Martin RNR (Rtd).

The evening began with a moving service led by Father Denis, with readings and prayers delivered effortlessly by AJC Goddard-Masters and Cdt Stemple. This was followed by some delicious refreshments, kindly served by members of our UMT and parents, thank you to everyone who helped make the evening so special.

The second part of the evening showcased a fantastic performance by the one and only TS Jamaica Band, followed by presentations celebrating ordinary people who did extraordinary things at sea, including Grace Darling and Austin Appelbee. 


A huge well done to AC Masood, AC Green, AC Turner, MC Stokes, OC Couzens and Cpl Green for their presentations.
We then finished the evening by recognising the achievements of our cadets throughout the month.

Green Modules:
AJC Goddard-Masters, who now turns his focus towards completing his Commodores Pennant.
OC Couzens - who recently attended Summer Camp and successfully completed not only her Beginners PT qualification, but also her Intermediate PT qualification. fantastic results.
AC Masood - who also attended summer camp and completed his Power Level 2 Boating Qualification. 

Promotions:
Well done to Cdt Paul and Cdt Stemple, who have completed their NEC syllabus in order for them the be enrolled as cadets, they recited the cadet promise in front of our guests and cadets to be promoted to Cdts. We look forward to seeing you both progress and enjoy your cadet experience.

Finally, a special well done to our standard bearers, AC Goddard-Masters and LC Hards-Morris, who carried the Unit standard and also the Towns Standard.

Another brilliant night celebrating our heritage, our cadets and the achievements of young people.

LOCAL RADIO INTERVIEW

Last week on Monday, our Chairman, Mr Paul Holton was accompanied by Sgt Green, and both the Mayor of Margate cadet and Lord Warden of The Confederation of Cinque Ports cadet, visited Academy FM Studios, thank you to Chris West (Broadcaster) for having us.
 
 
It was very appreciated to have the opportunity to tell Chris and the wider community what the Sea Cadets locally and Nationally do, giving an insight to how we run our unit, and was especially great to have two cadets to help promote the unit.

Margate Sea & Royal Marine Cadets, has been a unit in Margate for over 106 years, of which 64 years in Hartsdown Park, taking juniors from 9yr olds, Sea Cadets from 12yrs and Royal Marines from 13yrs.
 
 
 
Margate Unit is part of Sea Cadets East Kent and Southern Area Sea Cadets. We are an incredibly busy unit, supporting our Local Mayor of Margate, Charter Trustees and local community as well as Royal British Legion, Margate Branch and Ramsgate Royal Naval Association.
 
Throughout the year, we have continued to support the community, whilst giving our cadets every opportunity to thrive and succeed, winning various competitions; including Drill, Band and First Aid. Representing our unit at both District and Area level, in turn giving the cadets the opportunity to preform at National level as part of the East Kent District Band.
 
We were also honoured to be invited to partake in the National Marching Band Week in London, where 26 bands from around the world took it in turn to perform from Horse Guards and down The Mall. On other occasions our cadets have had the opportunity to participate in parades in London; such as National Trafalgar Day and Graspan Parade.
 
Margate Unit prides itself on having fun, giving everyone opportunities, and creating a family environment, whereby our cadets can make lifelong friends, whilst gaining recognised qualifications and having experiences and thriving to progress to their full potential.
 
 
Being a busy unit, we rely heavily on our amazing team of uniformed/civilian staff, charity trustees, parents and local support from Lord-Lieutenant, members of Parliament, Councillors, local businesses and the public, here at TS Jamaica we are like a big family, working hard to achieve. We are greatly appreciative of all the continued hard work and support of everyone involved.
