District 5-a-side football

A large contingent of our cadets travelled to RAF Halton on 2 December to contest the district football competitions.  We entered all four categories (junior and senior, girls and boys) and won them all!  This gives us the perfect start to retaining the district cup for the next 12 months which was also presented to our cadets today with respect to the last year of competition.  Many thanks to the Commanding Officer and staff of RAF Halton for granting us the use of the venue, district staff for organising the event, our unit staff who trained the teams and the parents who helped to transport and support our teams and of course, congratulations our cadets for their skill and sporting behaviour throughout.

T. S. Whaddon sent contingents to five venues on Sunday November 11th and also a large party to the "Football Remembers" match at Stadium MK the following Saturday.  We also provided a large proportion of the Ox & Bucks district swimming team at the Southern Area swimming gala with several of our cadets returning with medals.  Finally, our unit is Southern Area's nomination for the National Meritorious Performance Award.

On Saturday 27th October at Wolverton pool we achieved another clean sweep of trophies over the units of Oxon and Bucks.  Well done our cadets who trained so hard and to the staff who trained them, organised the event and provided lifeguard cover.  Ackowledgements also to the units who travelled to our remote corner of the district to give us fierce competition and thanks to the management of Wolverton pool for allowing its use for the event.

On the same day our cadets were active at Xscape selling poppies with RBL and also at Homebase selling burgers and poppies.

Treasurer honoured

In the evening of 18th October the South East Reserve Forces and Cadets Association held its annual awards evening at the Gateway Centre in Aylesbury, in the presence of the Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher Bt., the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire and many other distinguished Civil, Naval and Military guests. A proud recipient of the Lord Lieutenant's award for meritorious service was Michael Snell MVO, the Treasurer of Milton Keynes Sea Cadets. Since bringing his son to the unit as a potential new-entry, and leaving as Treasurer designate, Michael has been a tower of strength on the Unit Management team and has transformed the unit's finances to undreamt-of stability. Michael is also active in several other community roles but is rarely too busy to help out in any unexpected task or opportunity.

Leading Cadet Sian Purewall was installed as Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire's Sea Cadet, the unit’s eighth in succession. Sian has been with us for five years and in that time has gained numerous qualifications, up to instructor level, and is always an enthusiastic volunteer for unit sporting and civic activities.

Through the coming year Sian will attend the Lord Lieutenant during his official engagements, particularly royal visits.
