National First-Aid champions - yet again!

National First-Aid champions - yet again!

It was business as usual when our team made up by Cdt Sgt Sam, LC Sian, MC1 Hannah & OC Joseph W travelled to the Cadet Training Centre at Yardley Chase to defend their title.  Victorious, they then proceeded to the Inter-Service cadet championships on Sunday and came second by a mere two points!  Once again, "we will be back".

Congratulations also to CPO Heather Cole and PO Richard Saunders who did such a magnificent job of training the team and thanks to all who transported and supported our team.

Aloft, afloat and feet on the ground

Aloft, afloat and feet on the ground

Hard on the heels of our boatwork week, nine of our cadets travelled to the Royal Navy Air Station at Yeovilton for a day with the Fleet Air Arm including a flight in a Grob trainer (photographed).  At the same time three of our cadets were aboard T. S. Royalist sailing her from St Malo to Weymouth via the Channel Islands and, if this was not enough, Leading Cadet Sian has also qualified as a drill instructor!   What other youth organisation can offer such a variety of adventurous and worthwhile activities?

Boatwork training in Cornwall

Boatwork training in Cornwall

On 4th August our Officer-in-Charge, Sub-Lieutenant(SCC) Joy Tilley RNR, led a party of 17 cadets to the Sea Cadet training centre attached to HMS Raleigh at Torpoint.  During an unbelievably successful week our cadets achieved 32 sailing and power-boat qualifications.  Thank-you to CPO(SCC) Heather Cole, PO(SCC) Phil Tilley, CI Graham Witkowski and the staff of the training centre, without whose efforts this rewarding event could not have happened.

District Junior camp

District Junior camp

Saturday June 30 saw 40 juniors from across Ox & Buck assembling at Emberton Park Sailing Club for a day of waterborne activities and an introduction to navigation.  In perfect weather a great time was had by all including an hour each under sail.  Thank you district training team and junior section staff who worked so hard to make this happen and also the committee of EPSC for permitting the use of the lake and clubhouse.

Cross Stream champions

Cross Stream champions

Our cadets continued their run of success on 23 June with an emphatic win at the postponed cross stream (handling) event held on the Thames at Oxford.  Four firsts and a second left us as clear overall winners.  Well done all of our cadets and our paddlesports instructor CPO(SCC) Heather Cole plus the staff and parents who transported and supported our team.
