National Combined Regatta - Milton Keynes Results.

11 September 2023

National Combined Regatta is a key event in the annual competition calendar, and Milton Keynes had a number of entries, as a result of a win at Area Paddlesports (500m Open Girls Double Kayak), and panel selection to represent Southern Area in the following: Open Boys Yole, Junior Girls Rowing, Open Girls Rowing.

On Sept 1st, after weeks of race training we descended on the Excel London in preparation for competing on the 2nd September.

Results:
Silver - 500m Open Girls Double Kayak

Able Cadets Frankie L, and Melissa H stormed to a silver medal in the 500m Kayak Sprint against the six  other Areas, pipped for gold by Eastern Region. The National Silver is added to the Area &  District gold medals.

Bronze - Junior Girls Rowing

Returning to Nationals for the second year in a row the Milton Keynes Junior Girls team was again selected to represent Southern Area. Due to availability challenges Aylesbury rounded out the boat crew with a Cadet joining the boat.

Improving on their 2022 results of 1st,2nd,3rd, the MK boat posted 1st,2nd,2nd in the round-robin format of the rowing regatta,  totalling 8 points. Losing out to Northern Ireland (10pts)  and North West Areas (9pts), sharing Bronze medal position with South West Area

Bravo Zulu - Open Girls Rowing
Selected to represent Southern Area at short notice, the Milton Keynes Open Girls crew put in a sterling effort with a 1st, 2nd, 3rd results, giving them 7 points and a joint 4th position. South West had a clean sweep of wins on 12 points, with Eastern & Northern Ireland Areas sharing the silver spoils.

Bravo Zulu - Open Single Boys Yole
Leadign Cadet Will C was selected to represent Southern Area in the Yole event, the sliding seat competition class. The Round Robin format yielded 1st, 2nd and 3rd results leaving Will just outside the medals on 7 points, with Northern taking Bronze on 8.

Our efforts at National Combined Regatta would not have been possible without support from Aylesbury, Salisbury & Henley units . We're very grateful for the sharing of crew, facilities and wisdom that helped the Milton Keynes teams improve and compete on the national stage.

Milton Keynes Sea Cadets bring home Bronze medals in National Combined Regatta.

In a national event with 90 Sea Cadet Units across the South West competing, Milton Keynes Sea Cadet Unit has won the Bronze Medal for the Junior Girls Rowing team in this nail-biting national competition. Over 100 cadets from across the country including NI.

The team stepped up at short notice, training intensely two and a half weeks before the competition at Twickenham, Windsor and Henley. A special thanks to these units for supporting us and allowing us to train before the big day.

Lt (SCC) Joy Tilley, said: “Super proud of what this team has achieved, stepping up at short notice, training hard on a every occasion they got, despite people being away."

This is the first time the unit have entered the national competition at this level for many years and the cadets involved trained hard and this paid off when they reached third in the Junior Girls category and helping the Southern Area achieve a joint win overall.

This is a huge achievement for the team, many of whom have been with unit less than 18 months.
