A weekend of events has taken place in Morecambe to honour our armed forces and emergency services.
This year saw the town's first ever National Services Celebration Weekend where 'blue light' services were included in the event.
Activities took place inside The Platform and on the central Promenade on Saturday and Sunday.
They included a parade from the Clock Tower and drumhead service on Sunday.
Many services were represented on the Promenade on both days, including the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force, Lancashire Fire and Rescue, the ambulance service, local police, Morecambe and Heysham Sea Cadets, the Army Cadets, Morecambe FC Community Sports Veterans, St John's Hospice and more.
Oh what a night!!
We had laughs, we had tears, we had fun! The 2023 Lancaster District Volunteer Achievement Awards went with a bang (several actually - balloons and hot sun not a great combination as it turns out!). Almost 150 people came together at The Midland Hotel in Morecambe on a glorious summer evening to celebrate loads of brilliant volunteers and the amazing work that they do in our communities
We had four award nominees - Mrs Sarah Wilkinson, Lt (SCC) Arthur Bailey RNR, PO (SCC) Caitlin Wilkinson & CI (SCC) Amy Newsham.
We'd like to thank the Right Worshipful Mayor of Lancaster, Councillor Roger Dennison, for his warm opening of the ceremony and for presenting certificates and various awards through the night. We also want to thank Guy Penn & Co Ltd - for sponsoring the Volunteer of the Year Award; Banks Lyon Memorial Trust for sponsoring the Fundraiser of the Year award; and Lancaster & Morecambe College for sponsoring the Young Volunteer of the Year award.
Thank you to the Midland Hotel for hosting us, to all the staff last night for looking after us and bringing out such amazing food, and particularly to the events manager there, KatJasniewska, for all of the support that she gave to us through the planning stages.
Now that volunteers week has come to an end I would like to say thank you one more time to each and every volunteer who supports the unit. Without them we really couldn't offer the great opportunities that we do.
If you have followed our posts from over the week and have seen a role that has caught your eye, or even if you are interested in volunteering in a different and would like to know more please get in touch - we will always be able to find a role for your in our unit family.
BZ to all and a personal thank you for everything that you do.
Sub Lt (SCC) A Wilkinson RNR - Commanding Officer
