Tuesday 4 March saw the unit meet for our Royal Naval Parade in front of inspecting Officers Captain Peter Adams and Lieutenant Robbie Hay. As part of the evening we awarded a number of trophies. The recipients were (left to right) Ryan Watchman - Junior Cadet of the Year, Gregor Linfield - Best Cadet (achieved the most qualifications) and Hannah Calder - Senior Cadet of the year (contributed most to the unit in the past year) and the Beeston Memorial shield for community service.

We're delighted to say that we've been awarded a Pennant for the year up to our inspection in March 2013. This is the sixth in a row. We were stunned to see that we were only one percent the level needed to gain a Burgee - something which the Units has never recieved in its 60 year history.

The major thing we have to do right now is to get some adults to help us. At the moment it looks like we won't be able to do anywhere near as well as we did last year because we don't have enough adults. SO THIS IS A SERIOUS APPEAL FOR SOME ADULTS TO COME AND HELP US. You don't need to be ex-military or even an expert sailor. We just need people who are over 18 who want to work with young people and have the oportunity to learn all sorts of new skills. We're only looking for a few hours of your time each week. PLEASE contact us!

We were delighted to be able to host Sea Cadet Units from Inverness and Oban as well as our local ATC unit to this years Commando Speed March.

Held to commemorate the Second Worls War Commandos who had to run from Spean Bridge Railway Station to their Achnacarry training camp in less than an hour while carrying a 36 lb pack...or they would be returned to their units before they even started!

This year we were also delighted to receive a new trophy from the Lochaber Branch of the Royal British Legion of Scotland. The trophy was presented to Leading Cadet Sarah Whyton who completed the run carrying a 16 lb pack in 1hr 23 mins 05 secs. See below for the previous years results.

The fastest Sea Cadet was Lewis Hall from Inverness with a time of 1hr 15 mins 12 secs. Oban cadet E Cameron and J Dobson came in together with a tme of 1 hr 46 mins 11 secs.

The fastest cadet overall was Kevin MacColl of the Lochaber ATC who completed the run in 1 hr 15 mins 12 secs.

We'd like to thank the Royal British Legion for donating us our new trophy and for presenting the other trophies, and also Donald Cameron of Locheil for leting us use the front drive to Achnacarry Castle.

Lastly, thanks go to CI Paul Whyton for organising the event and also to all the other adults who made the event happen.

We were delighted to be asked to help the Royal British Legion at their fundraising 'Blitz Ball'. However, we were even more delighted with the welcome we recieved because the Air Cadets, who we were to be working with as ushers and stewards, had had to withdraw at the last moment.

The cadets were delighted to recieve the loudest round of aplause at the end of the night and an hours free bwlin which was given by the management of the Nevis Centre.

Despite the windy and sleety weather on 21 April 2013, a galliant team of cadets, staff and parents rowed our two rowing boats through the day and raised £450!
