Our inspection fell on the 13th July. Cdr Buchan Steele, the Area Officer for the North came to the unit and was very impressed with what he saw. The cadets demonstrated some of the things that they had acomplished over the past 12 months, from the Jubilee flotilla to winning multiple competitions. The majority of the Ships complan wer on board with a few absenteeisms due to Sea Cadet courses, birthdays, illness and even a McFly concert!

The unit has been reccomended for a burgee for the second year running, the highest efficiancy award that a unit can achieve, well done and thank you to everyone involved.

Diamond Jubilee

The units cadets were heavily involved in the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The unit lit one of the 2012 beacons around the country, two of our cadets were on TS Royalist, the Sea Cadets flagship on the Thames, and a crew from the unit made up one of the 55 boats in the Queens escort as she made her way down the Thames. Each boat had a flag of one of the commonwealth countries flying from it, ours carried the Union Flag! OC Garside from the unit told BBC Look North she felt 'special' to have been chosen to represent the unit. The cadets featured on both BBC and ITV news and a fantastic day was had by them all.

There were 5 teams from Gosforth Sea Cadets who hit the water ast the District Rowing Competition....and every one of them was victorious!!! The unit did not lose a single race on its way to total District domination!!!! We also went one better at the area competition, building on last years win in the Junior Girls Trinity 500 class, we also took gold in the Open Mixed Yole class, clearly the units purchase of one of these boats is paying off!!
