Harbour Master

Harbour Master

On valentines day, eight cadets and two staff were invited to the River Tyne Harbour Masters for a look round and a trip out in the Pilot boat. The lucky eight were selected and had a cracking night learning all about the workings of the office, and a blast out in the (rather quick!) Pilot boat.

Thanks to Trinity House for sorting this visit for the unit

New boat for the unit

New boat for the unit

Having seen medal success in the 2011 area rowing competition in the yole category, the CO decided to fundraise for the purchase of the units first boat. Thanks to grants from the Northumberland Childrens trust and the MSSC, the unit was able to secure the purchase of a Yole.

It was delivered at the back end of January and all the cadets and staff are now counting down the days until the boat season starts and we can take her out for her maiden row!!!

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year

The Gosforth Junior section, those aged 10 and 11, celebrated Chinese new year in style. The cadets learned about chinese culture, made a few traditional chinese dishes and then lit lanterns and let them go from the units parade square. The learning of other cultures and traditions counts towards their modules and the juniors especially liked the Burns night that was put on for them the following week! Haggis with neeps and tatties, shortbread, Irn Bru and even whisky were on offer for the cadets to try as they learned about Robert Burns and ended the night with a rendition of Auld langsine

District 5 Aside

District 5 Aside

The first competition on 2012 is the 5 Aside football. The competition was held at the JJB Soccerdome at the Royal Quays centre in North Shields. Gosforth fieldse four teams; Junior and Senior boys, junior girls and a mixed junior section team.....AND WON EVERY ONE!

There could be no better start to the year, from the heroics of Cdt Bell in the senior boys goal to the skills of Leading Junior Corbitt every cadet performed to their best and did their unit proud

The area competition followed and the best of the footballers from the rest of the North East and Scotland came up against the Mighty G and the senior boys again powered their way through booking themselves a place at the National Football finals at HMS Sultan, Gosport. The senior boys had a cracking weekend down in the south, the Area Officer, Cdr Buchan-Steele was their to cheer them on to a very hard won 4th place against some seriously tallented competition.

WELCOME TO 2012

WELCOME TO 2012

What promises to be a great year for Gosforth Sea Cadets starts here! We have much to look forward to in the coming twelve months including some MASSIVE events that the unit will play a part in. The Olympics comes to Britain in the summer and before that the Queen celebrates her Diamond Jubillee; you can be sure that the cadets of Gosforth will be in the thick of the celebrations for both events!

There are competitions to be entered, qualifications to gain, Royal Navy ships to visit and most importantly, FUN to be had.

Will you be joining us in 2012??!!
