Catsea Pre-Training Weekend

Prior to the upcoming CATSEA weekend, our Royal Marine Cadets underwent a weekend of in house training to ensure that they are ready and their skills are honed. The weekend included both classroom lessons and practical sessions in the field. The marines of TS Dauntless took the opportunity to work on formations, navigation, camouflage and leadership skills and now are ready for whatever CATSEA throws at them!

Annual Inspection

Every year, each Sea Cadet unit is inspected to ensure that the highest standards of training, safety and administration are maintained. This year we were honoured to host Captain Adams, the officer responsible for the whole of Northern Area. Captain Adams and parents were treated to several displays by the cadets, including a piping demo, first aid training and a camouflage and concealment session. The cadets worked extremely hard and conducted themselves well.

The Cadet Water Safety Test

With the summer, comes boating season. This is a great time to be a sea cadet because it provides the opportunity to get some great practical boating experience... But before the cadets can grab their oars they first have to pass the water safety test, the cadets must climb (or jump) into the water and float from one end of the pontoon to the other, pulling themselves out and climbing up the ladder without assistance. For some this can be quite daunting whereas for others it's great fun. The test ensures that cadets and staff know what it's like to fall into water and provide them with the confidence to know how to react. It is an important part of boating but can also be good fun.

Visit To IFCA

Recently, all of our cadets took part in a trip to IFCA in Blyth. IFCA stands for "Association of Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities" and they monitor fishing and conservation around the UK coast. The cadets were given the opportunity to learn about fishery monitoring and get their hands on some of the equipment on show. A great afternoon was had by all.

National Drill Competition

Royal Marine Cadets of TS Dauntless were recently chosen, after a run of competition successes, to represent Northern Area in the SCC National Drill competition.

The competition took place at HMS Raleigh and in attendance were many high ranking SCC officers as well as the best drill teams from across the country. In spite of a huge effort on the part of our cadets and staff, Gosforth was unable to take home the trophy, placing 6th overall. The cadets conducted themselves very well and we have every intention of taking the trophy next year!
