Cadets Celebrate the Battle of Trafalgar in a...

All of the ship's company were cordially invited to attend a unit lead celebration to mark the Battle of Trafalgar and Admiral Lord Nelson. Around 25 cadets made the effort to look smart and seamanlike to attend a formal dinner run by the unit.

A 3 course meal was prepared by the unit's Parents and Supporters Association.

The meal was followed by the Naval Tradition of toasts with 'port', the Guest of Honour, CPO Ray Lingwood Rtd, gave a very encouraging speech to the guests and cadets. Also in attendance was the unit's Vice-Chairman and the Royal Naval Association Chairman, Sally Jones.

Cadets had been practicing over the past few weeks to get the order of proceedings right, and they all acted very maturely and seamanlike.

This is type of event is only usually run for adults, but the unit decided it would be nice for the cadets to be involved in the celebrations in a naval-like manner.

4 Cadets from Conwy County Unit joined two other units from North Wales to compete for the North Wales District at the North West Area Swimming Competition.

All cadets did well, with all of the boys lengths coming 3rd and the senior girls races were two very good, solid second places.

Well done to all of the cadets!

Cadets Pipe to Dinner

Cadets Pipe to Dinner

4 cadets and a member of staff assisted with the organising and setting up of the Royal Naval Association's Annual Dinner.

One cadet particularly learnt the dinner call, created by blowing a 30 second announcement through the naval whistle, the Boatswais Call.

The cadet was given the task on Thursday and had perfected it by Saturday.

The Commanding Officer, who was attending the dinner, in uniform, was full of pride and was very happy with the cadets welcoming guests and most of all piping hands to dinner. It was just the right touch the dinner required. All guests and the President commented on how good the cadets did, and the RNA issued the cadets with a small donation to spend for themselves.
