2013 - Mess Dinner

Chiswick held its second mess dinner just before Christmas this year. The whole event was organised by POC Bales with the other senior Cadets taking charge of the Cadets cooking and Stewarding. Parents and supporters of the unit were invited to dine with us and celebrate the years successes.

The Cadets did an outstanding job and the guests enjoyed the evening very much.

As with every year the first Wednesday parade after Remembrance Sunday is the units Annual Gerenal Meeting. This is an evening for parents and supporters to attend and hear about what the unit has achieved over the year. We also have our Unit Management Commitee members restand for their poisitions and for any additional people to put themselves forward. We were joined this year by The Worshipful The Mayor of the London Borough of Hounslow, Councillor Pritam Grewal who chaired the meeting.

After we had finished it was time for the annual presentations. This year we started with seven of our New Entries saying the Sea Cadet promise and receiving their white caps from the CO. Afterwards the Mayor presented the awards to the Cadets for their achievements.

They were as follows -

2013 - Remembrance Sunday

This years Remembrance parade was especcially special for two reasons.

Firstly this was the first year that the new Chairman from the Royal British Legion had arranged it. They had added some changes to lengthen the parade and had added an eyes left when we march past the memorial.

Secondly it was a record turnout for the unit with six members of staff and twenty Cadets on parade. All Cadets were looking their absolute best after a small session the evening before to get all their badges sewn on and learning how to iron correctly. Also this year Chiswick Buzz were filming the whole parade and a video of the day can be found here

We have a large amount of photos from the day on our facebook page which can be seen here

We were very proud of both POC Bond-Vaughan and POC Bales for their stellar performance in both the District and Area Canoeing competitions. They both managed to make it throught to the National competition that was held at Victoria docks. They stayed the Friday night at the Excel centre with Cadets from all over the UK.

Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day and while our girls performed exceptionally well the Cadets from Northern, Southern and North Western were even better.

The London Area team did however have some success in Rowing and Sailing.

A group of Chiswick Cadets also joined us to help cheer on their friends and meet Cadets from other units and areas.

This year we sent twelve Cadets, escorted by A/P.O Reece Lewis, to go enjoy a week at the London Area Summer Camp. They spent their week enjoying various activities including waterskiing, canoeing and riding on a banana boat.
