Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year

Saturday 25th January 2020 was unusual as Burns Night and Chinese New Year coincide, something which will not happen again for 76 years! The cadets had a fun evening learning about Chinese New Year, tried writing some Chinese characters and even attempted to eat Maltesers, grapes and marshmallows with chopsticks. By the look of it...some had more success than others! Well done! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Trafalgar Day Parade 2019

15 October 2019

Trafalgar Day Parade, London 2019 here we come!

Many people probably don’t realise the logistical challenges we face as a small Unit, in the far-flung corner of the West Coast of Scotland. With only 4 buses to Glasgow daily, a bus journey, by the way of over 4 hours each way. We often rely on staff, volunteers and parents to transport cadets to their destination, inevitably going beyond Glasgow. This usually involves a return journey of a minimum of 10 hours and 350 odd miles! Despite these challenges, this year alone we have managed to provide cadets and staff offshore and training opportunities, travelling to Dundee, Rosyth, Largs, Inverness, Wales, Ireland and even London (we’ll let you calculate the hours and miles involved).

As a Unit, we are committed to giving each cadet the opportunity to fully experience every aspect of the Sea Cadets training and in so doing, offer them the chance to realise their full potential and give them wider life experience, beyond what a small and remote community can provide. Hats off to all the cadets that have risen to these challenges and to all our volunteers, past and present, because nothing happens without them! Also, to our many funders who have made these opportunities possible. Have a safe journey AC Caius and OC Beth and enjoy the whole experience! (btw the map only shows the first part of your journey๐Ÿ˜†)
