Cadet goes above and beyond!

Cadet goes above and beyond!

Cdt 1st Charlotte went off on her Cadet Aviation Foundation Course a week before competing at Avon District Drill and Piping competition.

That was the week the storms hit and storm Eunice saw all trains either cancelled or delayed! This meant that Cdt 1st Charlotte would not arrive back home until late on Saturday 19th February when the competition was the next day.

This impressive young person not only gained their Bronze Wings on the Aviation course but they also turned up bright and early on the Sunday morning ready to compete with the Colour Party Team and win runners up!

The opportunities for young people as cadets are endless! Interested in doing something different? We also have many adult volunteer roles, for more information;

Competition Time

February saw Avonmouth enter Avon District Drill and Piping competition. It was great to be out and about competing after an absence of competitions for two years due to the Pandemic.
The Colour Party team put on a great performance and were awarded runners up. This is a great achievement for the team who put in a lot of hard work.
We think all the teams that entered are winners having come through the past two difficult years and wish those units going on to represent Avon District at South West Area level goodluck!

Supporting our local community.

Supporting our local community.

Avonmouth Sea Cadets had the immense pleasure of supporting the 50th anniversary of the Shire newspaper serving the local community.

It was great to be out in our local community on our first post Covid-19 event engaging with old members and recruiting new cadets and volunteers.

In attendance at the celebrations were Commanding Officer Lt Cdr (SCC) Alison Fowler RNR along with Unit Management Chair Terri Booker accompanied by Ordinary Cadet Charlotte and First-Class Cadet Ruby.

Both cadets thoroughly enjoyed looking through the back copies of The Shire and spotting articles that featured previous cadets and family members but the highlight of the day for them had to be meeting the Lord Mayor of Bristol Councillor Steve Smith and getting him to sport a “I love Sea Cadets” sticker on his suit for the day!

During the afternoon we were joined by First Lieutenant Lt (SCC) Mick Fitch RNR and Lt Simon Marr RN who was a previous cadet at Avonmouth and is now a serving member of the Royal Navy and volunteers with us when he is available to do so.

This year will be a busy year for us as we prepare to celebrate not only our Patron Her Majesty the Queens Platinum Jubilee but also our 80th year.

We are currently looking for more volunteers to join our team. We have a range of roles available and offer many opportunities for volunteers to gain new skills and qualifications.

Fun at Hollywood Bowl.

New Year outing to thank cadets

Usually we would of held a Christmas party or a Christmas meal to thank the the cadets for the unusual year they had in 2021 but as we were still restricted we decided an outing was the best option!
So off to Hollywood Bowl we went with all the cadets for an evening of fun and bowling.
Huge thanks to all the staff at Hollywood Bowl we were very well looked after and look forward to visiting again in the future!

We will remember them.

Remembering the sacrifices made.

Remembrance Sunday 14th November was marked this year by TS Enterprise by holding a small remembrance service at the unit for cadets, parents and staff. After the service Lt (SCC) Fitch took a wreath to our local war Memorial in Shirehampton to pay respects on behalf of the unit.

"At the going of the sun we will remember them"

New volunteers are always welcome at the unit. We have a range of roles available and offer many opportunities for volunteers to gain skills and qualifications. For more information please complete the online form on the get in touch page.
