I am pleased to inform you that Wolverhampton Sea Cadets has once again been award a Burgee for 2022!
The Burgee is only awarded to the most successful Sea Cadet Units and with another for 2022 this takes us to a fourth consecutive award.
Bravo Zulu to all of our cadets and volunteers, this could not be achieved without your hard work and dedication.
Today we received the news that cadet Kwame has been successful in applying for a position on the National Cadet Voice Team. Kwame will be one of two representatives responsible for the whole of South West Area along with the First Sea Lord's Cadet.
There was a strong pool of applications submitted and Kwame was selected as a cadet who wanted to help others, make positive changes, include everyone, and work with other as a part of a team.
This event was organised by the Unit to dedicate the book of remembrance for our namesake ship HMS Newfoundland which also coincided with the 80th anniversary of her commissioning. HMS Newfoundland was paid for and adopted by the City of Wolverhampton during Warship Week in 1942 and as such Wolverhampton Sea Sea Cadets have worn her name since our formation on the 9th May 1942.
The event was hosted in St Peter's Church Wolverhampton and saw the gathering of cadets, volunteers, veterans and families of those who served onboard HMS Newfoundland. The book of remembrance was put together by Arthur Aston, a veteran of the Second World War and one of the first 30 cadets to join the unit upon our formation. After passing on the book of remembrance of the HMS Newfoundland Association to the safekeeping of the Unit which is now displayed alongside the Number 2 Bell, ship's crest and battle honours the new book has now been laid to rest in the memorial chapel of St. Peter's on the HMS Newfoundland lecturn and shall remain in the safe keeping of the church providing a quiet place for people to pay their respects to Wolverhampton's warship.
Arthur himself believes he is the only member of the ship's company to be from Wolverhampton and put the book together to remember his ship mates.
Wolverhampton Sea Cadets is proud to carry the name Newfoundland, and with both the ship and the association now sadly gone we are honoured to carry on the ship's name and memory on behalf of all those who came before us.
After a well earned break Wolverhampton Sea Cadets will reopen it's doors on Thursday the 5th of January ready for another exciting year ahead.
On Monday 24th October Wolverhampton Sea Cadets had the pleasure of welcoming our Area Officer, Commander Gary Mills RN, onboard TS Newfoundland.
After inspecting the ship's company Commander Mills took the time to speak to our cadets and volunteers as well as making an number of presentations, including the promotion of the first three Royal marines Cadets in the hsitory of the unit.
