Guide Dog Visit

We were pleased to welcome Monica, Jangle, Louis and Flur at the unit for the juniors parade night, Monica & Louis gave a talk to the juniors giving them a insight in how Guide Dogs help blind and partially sighted people in there every day life's. Louis explained to the cadets that his guide dog Flur helps in getting to work and even directing him to the shops so he can do his shopping. Cadets got to try different activities whilst blindfolded to see how hard it really is, from throwing a ball into a bucket, doing jigsaw puzzles and pouring a drink. It was a very in lightning evening and the cadets learnt a lot.

Avon District Camp

Avon District Camp

Cadets from the unit joined other units from Avon District on their boating week at SCTC Weymouth. The cadets took part in waterborne activities from sailing, rowing, power boating and windsurfing, with evening classes in piping, seamanship, first aid, navigation and meteorology. The cadets had great weather for their week away and came back with lots of qualifications in their chosen proficiencies.

Weston Sea Cadet Classic Car Show

Easter weekend we had our annual PSA Weston Sea Cadet Classic Car show, vintage and classic cars were proudly displayed by their owners for hundreds of visitor's to enjoy. The Parents & Supporters Association had a bar b q refreshment stand alongside a tombola, bric a brac and book stall. The cadets had a recruitment & fundraising stand. The weekend was a great success recruiting cadets not only for our unit, but informing visitors to the town information on their local units. 

 

 

Junior Training Weekend

Junior Training Weekend

19 Junior cadets attended the weekend at the unit, with activities including beret shaping, shoe polishing and some drill. They also done some fun things from cooking cupcakes and pizzas, some knot boards and some finger print analysing. Sunday we were like enough to have been lent a activity box from SS Great Britain which got the cadets boat building. The cadets had to design and build a speed boat out of the materials provided, the winning team had to get their speed boat from one end of the pool to the other without touching the sides. All cadets had a great weekend with one of them posting on Twitter "The best weekend ever"

Area Drill & Piping Competition

Area Drill & Piping Competition

March seen more training for the Area Drill Competition at HMS Raleigh, three teams from the unit were representing Avon District. The teams traveled to Plymouth with there uniforms pressed and boots highly polished, the teams completed their displays and after a short wait the results were in. The whole of the South West were falling in and the results were announced. Continuity Squad 2nd , Colour Party 2nd, Individual Piper 5th, Armed Guard 1st and Best Guard Commander, all the winners going to the National Drill & Piping competition in April. Avon District came first overall, the District Officer commented "Well done to everyone who took part, goes to show if the time and effort is put in, results can be produced. Thank you to all the staff and cadets who have worked so hard throughout all of their training. This is the best result for Avon District for a very long time! Needless to say I am one happy District Officer"
