Annual Awards Night

The cadets were on parade for the units Annual Awards evening, uniforms all pressed and boots polished. First a inspection done by the Weston towns Mayor Roz Willis. The cadets then all fell in for the awards, these ranged from the Commanding Officer's trophy, best all rounder (junior section), best bandsman, best piper and Royal Marines. All the awards are given by votes from the staff at the unit apart from the Commanding Officer's trophy which is the only trophy that he has any input in.

Lloyd's Bank Community Fund award

Lloyd's Bank Community Fund award

February a group of cadets were invited to the bank in Weston-s-Mare to collect a cheque after coming 2nd in their Community Fund Award, which was voted on by the local community by text, email and voting in the branch. The unit received £2000 which will be going towards new boating equipment.

Royal Marines Drill Competition

Royal Marines Drill Competition

Our Royal Marines cadets had their drill competition at HMS Flying Fox, this was a big year for the detachment as it was the first year we had enough cadets to enter the main competition. The detachment won Best dressed last year so really wanted to make a good go of the drill side of the competition. Which they did coming second in the 2 troop drill competition and lots of positive comments coming from others who watched them. BZ to the team.

District Drill Competition

District Drill Competition

Training for the District drill competition has been going on since the middle of December with cadets in different squads most of the unit were involved in the event, from Armed Guard, Unarmed Squad, Continuity Squad, Colour Party and Piping Team. The competition happened in February at Worle school, which ment not much travelling for our unit. The unit competed against 9 other units from the district, with all the hard work that had been put in to training and uniforms the outcome of the competition showed coming Overall winners, winning Best Guard, Best Continuity Squad, Best Colour Party & Individual Piper. BZ to all now off to Area to represent Avon District.

Unit gets an Award

News came in that the unit won Commander Cameron Trophy for the most improved unit in Avon District, this includes work done in the community, attending district weekends and competing in competitions. BZ to all at T.S Weston.
