Torfaen's Loss is Army's Gain

9 January 2018

A New Year is always the perfect time to take on a new challenge and start a new chapter.

Former MC2 Levi Meredith has certainly done this is style!  This week sees Levi joining the army - specifically the Royal Welsh.

Levi has been in the unit for several years now and had the honour of carrying out many duties including commanding the Royal Marines Cadet Detachment at the annual CATSEA examination and  the Guard on Remembrance Sunday.  Most resently winning the Commanding Officer's Cup at the Unit Awards Night in December.

Officer in Charge, Petty Officer Rolph said "Levi will be missed by the entire Ship's Company, especially the Royal Marines Cadets.  He has always showed a natural leadership and it has always been evident that he would join the armed forces.  Torfaen's loss certainly will be a gain to the army"

Well done Levi, don't be a stranger around the unit.  The next time we hope to see you will be after your passing out parade - wearing your white hackle with pride!

Unit Overhall

Unit Overhall

As many of you may be aware starting in 2017 the unit began an overhaul of the classrooms, offices and training space in the unit, with many having a fresh coat of paint and a new look.

Well within the first few weeks of 2018 another classroom has undergone a transformation

Over the Christmas leave our staff have been busy working in the top classroom turning it into a Royal Marines Cadet barrack room with facilities geared towards their specific training. With Corps Colours proudly painted on the wall, a Victoria Cross winners display, also with a dedicated projector screen to use.

Thank you to all the staff who took time out to help.

Do you have any ideas with how to make the unit look better? Get in touch with the team and let us know!

Torfaen gets unexpected early Christmas Present

Torfaen gets unexpected early Christmas Present

In September 2017 after a very busy boating season we said our good byes to CI Coleman or rather Leading Chef Coleman as he deployed with the Royal Navy for what we assumed to be 9 months.

So much to our surprise when we heard that after 3 short months he was due to return home after a mechanical breakdown.

Typically, rather than enjoying his unexpected leave and being as proactive as he is, he couldn't keep away from the unit and has been lending a hand with the ongoing renovations - along with a joke or two!

To CI Coleman and everyone else on behalf of Torfaen Sea Cadets we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

After nearly ten years commanding our Royal Marines Cadet Detachment. CSgt Morgan has taken the decision to stand down.

Thank you for all your hard work over the years.

Lieutenant (SCC) B. Yuille RMR will now take over the detachment and we wish him every success in his new post

High Sheriff of Gwent awards

Cadets from Torfaen have recently attended a selection meeting where they where given a chance to make a two minute presentation in order to bid for a share of a £74000 grant fund.

It is with great pleasure that we announce their success!!!! The High Sheriff of Gwent Mr Kevin Thomas was kind enough to extend Torfaen a grant of £4000 to be used to be update our boating equipment and banners.

Our sincere thanks go to the High Sheriff of Gwent for his generosity.
