JUNIOR DAY OUT TO PLYMOUTH AQUARIUM 2012

JUNIOR DAY OUT TO PLYMOUTH AQUARIUM 2012

On Sunday 1st July, a party from Tiverton Sea Cadets, led by PO and Mrs Andrews, set out for Plymouth in the minibus. The destination was the Plymouth Aquarium. It was supposed to be a trip for Junior Cadets but in the end more seniors than juniors attended and a few friends were taken along as well.

Everyone found the aquarium fascinating and there was time for ice cream on the esplanade.

It is intended that more general interest outings will be arranged so look for news of other trips coming up soon

THANKS FOR OUR POPPY DAY FUNDRAISING

THANKS FOR OUR POPPY DAY FUNDRAISING

After the Armed Forces Day parade, the Royal British Legion presented Tiverton Sea Cadets with a certificate of thanks in recognition of their efforts in collecting donations for the Poppy Appeal in 2011.

Junior Cadet Caitlin Pritchard was called upon to receive the certificate on behalf of the unit.

ARMED FORCES DAY AT TIVERTON

ARMED FORCES DAY AT TIVERTON

Tiverton celebrated Armed Forces Day on Saturday 30th June 2012 with a short parade from Phoenix Lane to the British Legion. It may not have matched the celebrations in Plymouth but it was an important gesture of support to our armed forces by the town.

Tiverton Sea Cadets were there to add our appreciation to those of the Royal British Legion, the Mayor and others who participated in the parade.

After the parade, the whole contingent was invited into the British Legion for a buffet lunch. Our cadets did really well - at the parade and the eating!

EXPLORING THE CANAL

EXPLORING THE CANAL

The evenings are long and the weather is improving. We are taking advantage of this by making longer trips down the canal. First in the Trinity and then in kayaks, PO Challenger has led our cadets exploring the first three miles of the canal to Tiverton Road bridge. For those who have not roweed or paddled that far before it has been quite a challenge and a few blisters are on show to prove it! Weeds and swans have also provided their obstacles but our first two outings have been a great success.

There will be other trips over the next few weeks. In general, it will be first come first served; so get to the unit in good time and make sure you bring the appropriate gear.

ST JOHN'S FAIR, WITHERIDGE

ST JOHN'S FAIR, WITHERIDGE

Witheridge has had a summer fair since it was first granted by King Henry III in 1248 - possibly the oldest fair in the country.

The British Legion has traditionally carried its standard at the front of the parade that marks the opening ceremony but, this year, one of the standard party fell ill and had to drop out. The standard bearer, Sheila Plummer, contacted our CPO Nikki Chubb to see if Tiverton Sea Cadets could help fill the gap at short notice.

So, on a sunny Saturday morning, 23rd June 2012, AC Hunter Annan found himself marching through the village to hear the 'Proclamation of the Fayre' read in the Square. TS Hermes Ready Aye Ready to help.
