A real taste of Nepal!

Our unit hosted the Gurkha Welfare trust to talk to the Cadets and Staff about the Gurkha soldiers, how they are recruited, how they are trained and how victorious they have been!

accompanying the Welfare trust was the owners of Everest food shop in Stafford who stock and sell genuine Nepalese food to supply the Gurkhas based at MOD Stafford.

The cadets all thoroughly enjoyed both the talk and the food, and I am sure that some of us will be visiting the shop to fill our own cupboards at some time.

Parents and Supporters quiz night

The Parents and Supporters Association organised our first ever quiz night, hosted at Perkins Social club in Stafford, and it was a roaring success!

nearly 100 parents, Cadets, Committee members and other supporters attended a very enjoyable eveining, raising nearly £300 through entrance takings, a raffle and a donation buffet!

The questions were well thought out, providing much discussion and entertainment! thanks to the chair of the P&SA who worked hard to get the raffle prizes and questions to make the night a success :-)

Cadets meet royalty at DofE challenge

4 Cadets, escorted by the 1st Lieutenant travelled to Salisbury to take part in the Diamond challenge for the anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh awards. Our cadets were selected along with another 4 cadets from North West area due to the large number of people from our unit who have completed their DofE awards.

The main event was a rowing challenge, rowing the combined distance between the Sea Cadet unit in Salisbury and Windsor castle. Prince Edward was the VIP in attendance and helped to complete some of the mileage with some of the Cadets, including ones from our unit!!

The 1st Lt has driven the DofE uptake a lot over the last 12 months and its really clear to see the benefit that it is having within the unit!

Cycle challenge raises over £300

A massive congratulations to the Cadets and Staff who took part in our Cycle challenge, hosted at very short notice in Morrisons in Rugeley.

The main aim of our event was to cycle the combined mileage from Rugeley to MOD Calledonia, our units annual camp location. we gave ourselves all day Saturday to get the mileage completed with us dropping short  by only a few miles.

The Parents and Supporters Association did an excellent job organising the venue at very short notice, after Tesco dropped out (at 10pm the night before), so without them, we would have been unable to complete our fundraising activity!

Thanks to the generosity of the folk of Rugeley, we raised well over £300!

UK Marine Spares donates new safety boat

A huge thanks goes out to UK Marine Spares who donated an ex-RNLI lifeboat to the unit to use as a safety boat.

Mr Riley from UK Marine Spares refurbished the old lifeboat by repairing the floor and other vital parts of the boat then kindly donated it to the unit.

I'm sure that this boat will serve us well and help keep the Cadets safe on the water
