London Area SCC Combined Regatta

London Area SCC Combined Regatta

As always July is regatta time in London Area and Southwark cadets were involved in both the canoeing and power boat handling events at Royal Victoria Dock Boating Station. Benjamin Wood took part in the open Boys Marathon and finished a close third. The power boat handling team consisting of Callum Malone on helm and Joshua Wood with Lewis Szmidt as crew finished in a good second place. Callum Malone was favourite to win the sculling but the event was cancelled due to adverse wind conditions. Anyone interested can watch the National Combined Regatta alongside the Excel Centre in September.

Shooting Camp

Callum Malone joined cadets from other London Area Units for a shooting camp with luxurious accommodation at Longmoor Camp in Hampshire. Callum is a regular participant in full-bore shooting gaining experience with both L81 .762 and L98 .556 rifles.

Representatives from Southwark were out in force for the British Heart Foundation London to Brighton Bike Ride. The Unit provided Marshalls for points 1 to 7 along the route which starts at Clapham Common and providing invaluable assistance to the overall success of this annual fund raising event. With up top 30,000 cyclists taking part it was quite a task keeping order on the day but just a typical day in the life of TS Cossack SCC.

Captain Mark Windsor visited TS Cossack in June. Although it is many years since the bossvisited Southwark it is the closest Unit to MSSC HQ in Lambeth Road and a little simpler than visiting TS Endurance on the Falkland Islands. During the evening guests from the Tallow Chandlers Company were welcomed aboard with all the appropriate ceremony. During the evening the annual prize giving took place which included awards to Benjamin Wood, Callum Malone, Sian Cummins, Joshua McBride, Alfie Button, Thomas Wood, Lewis Szmidt and Cead Darragh-Lee.

WCSIM

Carpet Guard, Piping Party and drum display were all provided by TS Cossack cadets at the WCSIM Summer Banquet. The event took place at the prestigious Merchant Taylors Hall in the City of London close to the Bank of England. Able Cadet Benjamin Wood was responsible for the dinner call as the Master and VIPs entered the banqueting hall. Leading Cadet Callum Malone organised the band display following on from a number of training sessions. Other cadets lined the route as guests arrived. The Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers has provided significant support to the Unit over a number of years.
