We will be opening our doors on Thursday 3rd and Monday 7th March from 7pm – 8.30pm for the local community to tour our new unit, chat to volunteers, cadets and take part in some hands on activities to encourage more young people to join us.

South Tyneside Sea Cadets District Officer, Lt Cmdr Chris Healy said “Seaham Sea Cadets is a fantastic opportunity for cadets to get to know other young people, make some great friends, learn new skills that will give them a great head start in life and will really boost their confidence. It has taken almost four years and lots of hard work as well as the vital community support to build the new unit, so we’re delighted to finally have the space to be able to invite more cadets to do more with their free time and join us.”

We're asking anyone aged between 10-18 who would like to find out more about what we offer to come and see us at 7pm and bring a parent or guardian. There will be taster sessions on offer, a short presentation to parents followed by free refreshments and the opportunity to take a look around our brand new bespoke premises. Everyone aged between 10-18 will get a free goody bag too (while stocks last).

16 year old Leading Cadet Ethan Barber has a glittering year of parades, civic ceremonies and Royal visits ahead of him as he has recently been named among the Lord-Lieutenant Cadets for Tyne and Wear. Planning to eventually go on to join the Royal Navy, Ethan hopes to become a pilot for the Naval Service. Having been a Seaham Sea Cadet for 6 years,  Ethan has amassed a vast array of nationally recognised qualifications across a range of disciplines such as diving, sailing, rowing, first aid and power boating - which has helped to shape his future and given him a great head start in life.

Ethan said “Joining Seaham Sea Cadets has given me some amazing experiences from sailing around the UK on the Sea Cadets flagship TS Royalist to learning how to fly after I gained my bronze and silver wings on the Sea Cadets aviation programme”.

The BTEC Level One in Teamwork, Personal Skills and Citizenship is now automatically available to all cadets who reach the rank of Ordinary Cadet.  This is a fantastic opportunity for our cadets to come away with a free and nationally recognised qualification just for simply doing what they already do.

South Tyneside District Officer Chris Healy said, "The launch of our new BTEC qualification in January 2016 will create another opportunity for young people to get the best possible head start in life by joining Sea Cadets, and will make a huge difference to their future academic aspirations and employment prospects.”

To mark our achievements in 2015, we have been presented with the most sought-after annual Sea Cadet award, the Burgee (pictured). The award reflects high levels of training, community participation, events, uniform and staff and cadet attendance. The burgee is awarded to Sea Cadet units who demonstrate outstanding performance across a variety of disciplines over the course of the last 12 months, and it means our unit is one of the best performing units in the UK.
