POOLE REMEMBERS

POOLE REMEMBERS

Sunday saw Poole Sea Cadets as usual playing a major part in Poole's Civic Service of Remembrance and Dedication. The service was led by the Chaplain of the Mayor of Poole, The Reverend Canon Lucy Holt. The park area surrounding the war memorial boasted a huge crowd of onlookers, who were in good voice. Congratulations to all involved in the sensitive handling of such a sombre occasion. The Parade Commander should be congratulated on keeping such an undertaking to exact time.

AGM AND ANNUAL PRIZE GIVING

AGM AND ANNUAL PRIZE GIVING

On a hugely motivational evening Poole's Sea Cadets came together to not only reprise the year but then be presented with prizes.

This was in the presence of our President, Rear Admiral Nick Lambert, RN (Rtd); our Patron, The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Pete Miles, and the Sheriff of Poole, Cllr Mark Howell.

Once again the plans for our proposed future headquarters were revealed before our President and Civic Guests presented the prizes.

It had been revealed by our CO that over the year more than 600 qualifications had been achieved by our cadets which works out at approximately ten each - an outstanding result for both our cadets and volunteers. BZ to all concerned.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, Mr Michael Dooley LVO MMs FRCOG, proudly hosted the annual Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset Awards ceremony at Thomas Hardy School, celebrating the remarkable contributions of young people and adult volunteers in the community.

Five outstanding young individuals were invested as Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets for the forthcoming year.

One newly appointed cadet, who exemplifies leadership, dedication, and community spirit, was our own Leading Cadet Freya Kay from Poole Sea Cadets

The ceremony, attended by family, friends, and community leaders, served as a poignant reminder of the positive impact these young leaders and dedicated volunteers have on Dorset.

POOLE SEA CADETS SET SAIL FOR THE FUTURE

POOLE SEA CADETS SET SAIL FOR THE FUTURE

At a packed public meeting, Poole Sea Cadets outlined their expansion plans to more than a hundred interested parties that included the public, families, Councillors, and an MP.

The background is that Poole’s popular Cadets are attracting record numbers of potential recruits but are confined by their existing Headquarters Building – TS Drax – parts of which date back 85 years. A proposed new building would enable the existing Unit to expand from sixty cadets to ninety girls and boys.

Following a display by the Unit’s award-winning marching band the audience were given the opportunity to ask questions and to record their views.

The business community in Poole has been incredibly supportive in the design process. The new building makes use of the existing site in Sterte in Poole, and its proposed replacement has been designed by Forum Architects, for whom Tim Gough was on hand to talk through and explain the intricacies of the design. Planning concepts have been eased by advice from Gavin Hall of Savills. Poole structural Engineers Calcinotto, represented by Mark Dawson, have been intimately involved too. Poole Harbour Commissioners and the Port of Poole provided the venue for the meeting.

The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Pete Miles, who is an active Patron of Poole Sea Cadets, gave a very enthusiastic and rousing supporting speech whilst Vikki Slade, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, said, “It was fantastic to visit Poole Sea Cadets and receive an update on plans for a new HQ. The team they have put together has designed a great space that will enable them to grow and continue their fantastic work with young people. I was especially thrilled to hear the Cadet Band play; they are incredibly talented.”
