Trafalgar Day 2011

This year, the unit participated in two Trafalgar Day parades, one at District level in Burton on Trent on the 16th October, and also the National parade in London on the 23rd October.

The cadets were well turned out for the District parade and the event was covered in the Navy News. CDT McGrory was also awarded the LtCdr Welsh Special Recognition Award during the parade - this was for his spectacular dedication to the unit. He was awarded a free weekend on an Area Boatwork Course in March.

8 cadets were selected for the National parade to be part of the Eastern Area platoon. The platoon was made up of cadets entirely from Trent District and was supervised by SLt (SCC) Mitchell RNR and PO (SCC) Carter.

The cadets who attended the London parade were:

POC Hendry
LC Pooler
LC Edwards
LC Filsell
AC Sarricchio
AC Matthews
OC Curzon
CDT Kirk

TS Orion has been listed as a volunteering project by the University of Nottingham's Student Volunteer Centre.

We hope to find some new willing adult volunteers who can bring new skills to our unit and fit in with our big family!

Area Adventure Training Challenge

Area Adventure Training Challenge

Where are you?

Two teams of 4 cadets entered the Area Adventure Training Challenge from the 16th to the 18th September, based at Robin Hood Scout Camp in Mansfield. The competition involved walking a set route and completing challenges to do with rope work, first aid and map reading.

PO R Carter trained and led the two teams for the competition, and although we didn't win, everybody involved certainly had an experience!

Junior team: AC Sarricchio (Team Leader), AC Sills (2ic), OC Curzon and CDT Neale.

Senior team: AC Matthews (Team Leader), LC Edwards (2ic), OC Thacker and CDT McGrory.

Whilst cadets were competing at the National Regatta in London, others were assisting with a stall at the Gedling Show alongside members of the P&SA in order to raise awareness of our charity.
