National Combined Regatta

National Combined Regatta

Fantastic Result for Nottingham

This year's National Combined Regatta, held at the ExCel Centre in London, saw Nottingham walk away with the gold trophy for Rowing Boathandling representing Eastern Area. This is the first time Nottingham have won the competition in as long as we can remember, so everybody is incredibly proud!

The unit will hold the trophy for a year, although hopes are high that we can retain it at next year's competition!

The team consisted of POC Lena Urbacz, LC Edward Pooler, OC Josh Taylor, CDT Ben Hunter and CDT Liam McGrory. LC Hayley Filsell has also been involved in the team this year, entering the area competition whilst POC Urbacz was in Canada.

Congratulations to CPO M Woolley who has been training teams for this event for the past ten years and has finally achieved his goal!

The photo shows the team alongside Captain Mark Windsor RN, the Captain of the Sea Cadets, and Cdr Eric Langley RN, Eastern Area Officer.

Also attending the National Regatta was AC Alice Love-Twelves who achieved a Silver medal in her kayaking event. Alice has since left the unit to join Welbeck Defence College and we wish her the best of luck in the future.

Canadian Exchange

POC Lena Urbacz was selected to represent the UKSCC on an international exchange to Canada at the end of July. The exchange consisted of nautical and cultural activities, and POC Urbacz enjoyed herself immensely. It was a great honour for her to be selected out of all the applicants in the country, and she was a fantastic ambassador for the corps.

SCTC Weymouth Unit Week

Fun times in Weymouth

The 24th-29th of July saw Nottingham Sea Cadets take 20 cadets to SCTC Weymouth for a week of boating. Cadets enjoyed a great week and came back with a wide variety of qualifications in sailing, powerboating, kayaking and windsurfing.

A very wet day!

Five different teams of cadets attended the Eastern Area Combined Regatta from the 15th to the 17th July, accommodated at Beckingham Army Training Camp and competing at Girton Sailing Club and Lincoln Sea Cadets.

Rowing boat handling won their competition and will be attending the national event in September.

The power boat handling, sailing boathandling and junior boy's racing team also competed, and although not placing anywhere at area, all had a fantastic weekend and are keen to compete again next year.

AC Love-Twelves and LC Hendry also competed in the kayaking events, and AC Love-Twelves will be representing the area at Nationals.

Although the day was very very wet, relatively high spirits were retained by all and we look forward to another successful year in 2012.

District Advancement Board

District Advancement Board

Five out of Five

Five cadets from Nottingham attended a district Advancement Board from the 8th to the 10th of July.

Jack Palmer, Edward Pooler, James Edwards, Ryan Marks and Gregor Hendry all attended, with SLt A Crump and PO R Carter also assisting on the board. Palmer and Pooler achieved credit passes, Marks achieved a pass, and Edwards achieved a partial pass which has since been upgraded to a full pass. Hendry also achieved a credit pass for his Petty Officer Cadet rate which is awaiting confirmation.

Palmer, Pooler, Edwards and Marks are all now full Leading Cadets and are doing fantastically well.
