Sea Cadets Nottingham has had the immense privilege of helping pay homage to two of Nottingham’s finest winter athletes as a short film is made in honour of Torvill and Dean’s amazing victory at the Sarajevo winter Olympics.

Cadets and volunteers learned a ten second dance routine based on the ice skaters’ 1984 ‘Bolero’ routine, which was then edited together with many other clips of groups around Nottingham performing their own sections.

The short film was created as part of the Neat14 arts festival in Nottingham, envisioned by associate director of Nottingham Playhouse Fiona Buffini in partnership with Dance4, Confetti Media Group and Spool.

Volunteer PO (SCC) Stacey-King said, ‘I was only going along originally to drop off my daughter who volunteered to take part, but ended up dancing! It was an amazing opportunity and I really enjoyed all the practices.’

PPO (SCC) Jack Palmer has been awarded 'The Defence Maritime Award for Youth Logistics Training' at HMS Raleigh.

This is for the trainee who achieved and maintained the highest standards during Youth Logistics Training – namely his first class cook steward qualification. Jack was awarded a trophy, a framed certificate and a cook book from Captain Bob Fancy OBE ADC RN.

The ceremony began at 1100 on the 4th July, followed by a formal buffet. Jack spent the rest of the day socialising with high ranking Royal Navy officers and fellow prize winners.

“It was a great day and the highlight of my Sea Cadet career,” said Jack, who is now a uniformed member of staff at Nottingham Sea Cadets.
