BBC Filming Stars!

BBC Filming Stars!

Monday 21st May 2012 saw BBC Wales Today come and film the Jubilee Pageant Team from both Milford Haven and Fishguard Sea Cadets at Milford Haven Docks.  The filming was about preparing and looking at training on the water for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant down the River Thames and about what the cadet's were feeling about taking part.

In the background was our Sea Cadets, Junior Section and Royal Marines Cadets rowing, sailing and power boating - what an absolutely amazing night!

Thank you to BBC for picking Milford Haven Sea Cadets and Fishguard Se Cadets for filming but also to Nicola Russell, the Communications Officer from the Marine Society & Sea Cadet Headquarters who assisted us greatly throughout the whole process!

We should appear on BBC Wales Today some time next week (Thursday 31st May or Friday 1st June).  Watch out for us!

South Hook LNG Support MHSCC!

South Hook LNG Support MHSCC!

South Hook LNG representatives were delighted to formally present Milford Haven Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets with their new ‘Yole’ rowing craft. The Milford Haven Unit recently partnered with British Rowing in order to provide nationally recognised rowing qualifications for their members and this vessel will increase the number of courses they can attempt. As spring arrives the cadets are keen to get out onto the waterway and try out the new sliding seat rowing vessel for the first time.

Sub Lieutenant William Elliott, Commanding Officer of the Milford Haven Sea Cadets commented “Without generous donations we would not be able to progress forward in providing better facilities and equipment for the young people in Milford Haven and surrounding areas.  We are delighted that South Hook LNG continues to support us and this can be seen through helping us develop sliding seat rowing.”

South Hook LNG is proud to continue its association with the Sea Cadets in Milford Haven, having previously donated a safety boat to the unit. Frank Thomas, Shipping Superintendent with South Hook LNG commented “It is great to visit the cadets here in Milford Haven and see the enthusiasm that they have for the Marine Services. The dedicated volunteers are able to encourage safe and educational activities on the waterway and on land, supporting the cadets in developing invaluable skills for their futures”

Milford Haven Sea Cadets lead the Queen's Barge...

Sea Cadets from Milford Haven will be taking the lead when they join other Sea Cadets from across the UK to lead HM The Queen’s Jubilee barge, Gloriana, down the Thames on June 3 in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee.

Cadets are training hard in preparation as they will be the focal point in a huge procession of over 1,000 vessels as they crowd the Thames to honour the Queen’s jubilee as part of a huge Thames pageant, the likes of which hasn’t been seen since 1717.

Cadets aged 12-18 are part of a 55 strong team of Sea Cadet boats from all over the country, each one carrying a flag to represent a commonwealth nation, sailing in a diamond formation on an 11km route from Wandsworth to Greenwich.

The boats, Trinity 500’s, were specially designed for Sea Cadets last year by Olympic dinghy medallist Jo Richards and will be fitted with an outboard motor supplied by Suzuki GB.

Captain Sea Cadets, Capt Mark Windsor RN said, “This is a great honour for us, not least as HM The Queen is our Patron, but it also offers our cadets an incredible opportunity to take part in a once in a lifetime event, to be part of history”  .’

Commanding Officer Sub Lieutenant (SCC) William Elliott RNR said “This is a fantastic opportunity and a great honour for us at Milford Haven Sea Cadets to be part of the diamond formation on the Thames for HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee”.

Sea Cadets is the UK’s largest maritime youth charity, working across the country in 400 towns with 14000 Sea Cadets aged between 10 and18.  Cadets learn vital life skills like leadership and team working via nautical adventure activities, and can earn extra qualifications which help boost confidence and give young people a head start in life.
