Best Commanding Officer in the UK!

Today, the Sea Cadet National Awards have been announced and following our nominations, we are delighted to inform you that our Commanding Officer, Lieutenant (SCC) William Elliott RNR has been awarded the Roddie Casement Sword. Making him the Best Commanding Officer for this year, in the opinion of the Captain of the Sea Cadets.

Congratulations Sir!!

Unfortunately, we didn't place in the SRMO's trophy, but the RMCD should be proud to know that they have been recognised for improving over the last year.

The Unit, has also been given a shout out in the awards for receiving a Captain's Certificate of Commendation for 2019, which was also the first EVER for the Unit.

Well Done Team!

Awarded to the unit CO/OiC who, in the opinion of the CSC, has, by example and dedication, contributed most to the aim of the SCC during the preceding year.
Background: The sword was presented by the family of the late Captain Roddie Casement OBE RN, who was Captain of the SCC 1959-67.

  • SRMO Trophy Nomination.  This award is to the most improved Royal Marines Cadet Detachment goes onto the National Awards.
  • Roddie Casement Sword Nomination.  This award went to Lieutenant (SCC) William Elliott RNR, who in the opinion of the Area Officer is the Best Commanding Officer in South West Area.  His nomination puts him up against 5 other nominations for the National Award.

Lieutenant (SCC) William Elliott RNR, the Commanding Officer comments, “I am rightfully extremely proud of the Unit and Royal Marines Cadet Detachment.  We have worked extremely hard over the years and to have it recognised for the determination and improvement here at TS Harrier is just amazing.  For my nomination, I am very honoured but it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my amazing team of adult volunteers, committee members and parent’s committee, in addition to simply the best group of cadets.  Fingers crossed for the national awards, due to be released in the next 2 weeks”.
