DISTRICT BAND COMPETITION

DISTRICT BAND COMPETITION

Over the weekend, the TS Jamaica band and staff travelled to Ashford Sea & Royal Marines CadetsUnit to compete in the Sea Cadets East Kent Band Competition. Our cadets worked incredibly hard to earn their place, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts and achievements.

The competition was judged by members of the Royal Marine Band Service. TS Jamaica entered every category; buglers, drummers, and full band.

A special congratulations goes to MC Stokes, one of our youngest members, who achieved 1st place in bugling, and to AC Masood from Ramsgate and Broadstairs Sea Cadets, who took 1st place in side drum. AC Masood is a regular member of the Jamaica band. LC Bradley also did an outstanding job leading the band with confidence and precision, earning 2nd place in Drum Major.

While the overall band result placed us 2nd behind the well-deserved winners, TS Churchill, every cadet represented us with pride. From supporting each other through practices, to helping one another ensure uniforms were perfect on arrival, and demonstrating unity on the parade square, they truly embodied the values of the Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets.

Thank you to the District Staff who organised such a fantastic event, giving cadets the opportunity to showcase their skills and how far they have come.

We are immensely proud of every single cadet who took part. Well done to all involved!

ROYAL NAVY PRESENTATION

ROYAL NAVY PRESENTATION

This evening we were welcomed by Lt Phillips, his staff and cadets on board TS Bulldog Ramsgate and Broadstairs Sea Cadets. We were invited to visit TS Bulldog to attend a presentation given by PO Andrew Redgate on Royal Navy careers. PO Redgate gave a very engaging and informative presentation on careers and opportunities that you can experience within the Royal Navy.

During standeasy, the cadets got to speak with PO and ask questions about his own experience.
It was great to see the cadets socialising with each other, with lots of smiles and laughter echoing around the old terminal.

PO Andrew set about building teamwork and leadership among the cadets with a few fun games to end the evening, with both cadets and staff getting involved.

Thank you to TS Bulldog for your warm welcome and hospitality. And to PO Redgate giving the cadets valuable information and a fun evening.

AREA DRILL AND PIPPING COMPETITION

AREA DRILL AND PIPPING COMPETITION

Fantastic day yesterday as our Sea Cadets proudly represented not only our unit but also our District.

The cadets travelled to HMS Excellent in Portsmouth to attend the Southern Area Drill Competition. Margate Unit has not been represented at this competition for many years, so simply being there was an incredibly proud moment for us all.

While we didn’t place this time, the experience gained was invaluable for both cadets and staff. It gives us something to build on as we continue to develop our skills and aim to return next year with even greater knowledge and understanding of the standards required at Area level.

Throughout the day the cadets showed fantastic unity, teamwork and professionalism both before and after the competition, and we couldn’t have asked for any more from them.

Keep your heads held high, show the resilience you’ve demonstrated, and come back even stronger. We’re excited to see what the rest of the year brings.

RECRUITMENT DAY AND BAND PERFORMANCES

RECRUITMENT DAY AND BAND PERFORMANCES

Today, thanks to Westwood Cross, our Unit undertook a Recruitment/Promotional Day, as well as having a Band perform to the delight of shoppers! On behalf of the entire ship's company, we would like to thank the centre staff and shoppers for their kind comments and appreciation. It is really appreciated!

To some shoppers, seeing our Cadets and Staff in Uniform brought back fond memories of their time and their families who have served. Throughout the year, we undertake a variety of both training and public events, as well as ceremonial parades and services.

To those who showed interest in joining, and who took a leaflet, we hope to see you soon, and to those shoppers who donated money for their appreciation of the band, thank you!
