On Sunday 17th August, the ship’s company of T.S. Iron Duke proudly joined the local community in commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Japan. The service was a poignant reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of all those who served during the Second World War. Together, cadets, staff, veterans, and local residents paused to reflect, giving thanks to the brave servicemen and women who fought for our freedom and secured the peace we enjoy today.

This important occasion not only honoured the memory of those who gave so much, but also provided an opportunity for today’s generation to learn, remember, and carry forward the legacy of service and sacrifice.

Sea Cadets Weymouth Week 2025.

The sun had barely risen when our Sea Cadets gathered with excitement bubbling in their voices. This was the week they’d all been waiting for their annual summer escape to Weymouth.

As the coach pulled away, laughter and chatter filled the air, and the promise of adventure hung over them like a clear blue sky. Each day offered something new: the thrill of sailing across open water, the rhythm of oars during rowing sessions, the challenge of rock climbing, and the exhilaration of mountain biking along rugged paths. There were moments of determination, teamwork, and quiet pride as they pushed themselves further than they thought they could.

Evenings were spent sharing stories, playing games and enjoying well-earned rest. By the time the week came to an end, friendships had grown stronger, confidence had soared, and unforgettable memories had been made the kind they’ll treasure for years to come.

A Week to Remember – Zulu Company Summer Camp 2025

The anticipation had been building for weeks — and at last, the day arrived. Our Marine Cadets and Adult Volunteers from the Marine Detachment set off for Zulu Company’s Summer Camp 2025, hosted at the Army Training Camp, Longmoor. Bags were packed, boots polished, and energy levels high — the week ahead promised challenge, adventure, and a few surprises along the way.

With the support of the Blue Jackets and the Headquarters team, everything was set for success. Working tirelessly behind the scenes, they ensured every piece of kit was ready, every meal prepared, and every activity ran like clockwork. With logistics in capable hands, cadets and staff could throw themselves into a demanding, action-packed programme — all under the watchful eye of our enthusiastic camp mascot, who oversaw the week’s events with great interest (and perhaps a bit of mischief).

The days were full:

• Fieldcraft exercises that tested teamwork, planning, and problem-solving.

• Weapons handling lessons requiring focus, precision, and discipline.

• Live firing on the range to hone marksmanship skills.

• Gruelling PT sessions led by instructors who knew exactly how to push participants to their limits.

Each activity was more than a skill test — it was an exercise in resilience, determination, and mutual support.

Midweek brought a special highlight: the opportunity to meet and hear from some of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, and Sea Cadet Corps’ most respected leaders. Rear Admiral Jude Terry CB OBE, D/DOPs Cdr (SCC) Gary Bassett, and RMCSSO Lt Col (SCC) James Sandilands RMR took time to answer questions, share stories, and offer advice that will inspire our cadets for years to come.

By the week’s end, tired legs and mud-caked boots told the story of a camp well spent. Cadets returned home with sharper skills, stronger friendships, and a deeper pride in their own potential — both as individuals and as a team.

Disclaimer: Cadets are taught weapon-handling skills as part of a structured, supervised programme that emphasises safe and responsible use. All cadets handling rifles are under the close supervision of qualified Skill at Arms Instructors at all times.
