Huyton with Roby sea cadets were recently presented with the Canada trophy which is the highest accolade in the Sea cadets and given to the unit judged to be the best in the country. This is the first time a unit from Liverpool has won the prestigious award. The trophy was originally presented by the Navy league of Canada for competition in the sea cadet corps to commemorate the first visit of Canadian sea cadets to Great Britain in 1947.
The presentation was held at unit headquarters in McGoldricks park Huyton.  The cadets all turned out and did the unit proud, they were inspected by Rear Admiral Hockley, Captain Tulloch of the Royal Canadian Navy and Captain J Holloway - Captain of the sea cadets.  Following the inspections and the routine of colours  Rear Admiral C.J Hockley along with Captain T Tulloch RCN helped plant the units commemorative maple tree in the unit grounds. Following this the visiting officers were invited to spend time speaking with cadets, staff, parents and supporters before enjoying a presentation given by the cadets which showcased their activities and achievements this year.   Following this it was time for the cadets to be presented with their medals and the maple leaf badges for their uniforms. On completion of this a number of presentations were made - Captain Holloway presented the unit with the Stephensons trophy (Best sea cadet unit in North west are), this was received on behalf of the unit by our long serving staff member Lt (SCC) John Jones who has now retired, Captain Tulloch RCN then presented the Canadian commendation to the unit which was received by unit president Commander Harley RN (retied), on completion the Commanding officer Lt (SCC) Micky Farrell RNR was presented with the Canada trophy.  On completion of all presentations a cadet from our newly formed Halewood division was selected to slice the cake and mark the beginnings of the party celebrations for the ships company.
