Hebburn Sea Cadets are urging the general public to make a community focused New Year’s Resolution in 2016, as they seek volunteers to help run their unit to enable young people from Hebburn to get a head start in life through nautical adventure and fun.
Sea Cadets offers an inspirational environment for young people aged 10 – 18 to challenge themselves and personally develop though nautical adventure based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy. This helps young people to build a sense of identity, positively impacting their life chances, from improved post-16 destinations in employment and training to see an increased participation in communities.
George Bone, Chair of Hebburn Sea Cadets, said: “We need the help of local people who are happy to roll up their sleeves, get involved and potentially make a huge positive difference to the lives of lots of young people from our region. We have lots of uniformed and non-uniformed roles ranging from working directly with the cadets to behind the scenes management. You don’t need experience to join us as full training is provided. Everyone has a part to play to ensure young people get the best possible head start in life”.
Hebburn Sea Cadet volunteer George Heron (pictured) said: “I’ve been volunteering for 18 months and now have three nationally recognised qualifications. I have also been offered free training which has equipped me with the skills I need to give our cadets a fantastic experience.
