MAYOR OF DERBY VISITS TS KENYA

The Mayor of Derby visited the Sea Cadets at TS Kenya to award their Pennant. The award was received by the OiC PO(SCC) Carl Hurst on behalf of the ship's company. It was also a proud evening for families of three cadets as they gained their promotions, which included two cadets who are now officially enrolled in the ship's company and a Royal Marines Cadet who successfully passed his promotions board to MC1. Several certificates were also handed to those cadets who passed their swimming test and lots of good conduct stripes were also awarded.

NOTTS AND DERBY DISTRICT REGATTA

Cadets from Derby took part in the annual regatta at Nottingham Unit on the Trent. Three teams competed in the rowing races and another team took part in the Sail Boat handling competition. All the teams did very well and enjoyed the days events. Well done to all the teams, especially to the Sail Boat handling team who are through to the Area Regatta in July at Girton Sailing Club.

The ships company of TS Kenya were joined last week by officers from the Notts and Derby District team. The team lead by LtCdr(SCC) P. Clay RNR came to perform the yearly inspection of the staff, cadets and unit in general. The team watched as cadets took part in their lessons and after Evening Colours routine several parents came onboard to watch their children be awarded with First Aid qualifications and promotions.

2 very busy weekends for cadets

Several cadets have gained valuable qualifications over the past 2 weekends. 12 cadets took their Core Ropes and Rigging at Derby Unit, whilst 4 cadets attended a Meteorology weekend at TS Modwena in Burton on Trent. Cadets will use these qualifications to get their promotions, use them for boating or record them for their Duke of Edinburgh award.

Latest cadets to officially join City of Derby...

  It was a  special evening on Wednesday 4th February 2015 for the newest members of TS Kenya. They all took their promises in front of their parents and ships company. As official members of the ships company they can now access all the fun and qualifications open to the Cadets.
