National Trafalgar Parade

Sunday 18 October 2015 saw Leading Cadets Pickering, Shubrook and Bentley in London for the National Trafalgar Parade.  All three had been staying in Portsmouth for the previous two days undertaking intensive training.  LC Pickering was selected to lay a wreath at Trafalgar Square.

Ride to the Wall

Saturday 3rd October 2015 saw Cadets, Staff and Committee at The National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas for the annual Ride to the Wall.  This is an event where motorcyclists have a chance to pay their respects to their fallen friends and family.  This event began 8 years ago when Martin Dickinson asked if he could ride up The Causeway to the Cenotaph with some friends and since then it has snowballed.  From the initial first few motorcyclists, the latest event had approximately 20,000 attending, with some of the attendees travelling from as far afield as New Zealand.

The cadets lined the route into the Arboretum as the cortege arrived and spent the rest of the day with buckets and collecting tins to help raise funds for the Arboretum.  Since Ride to the Wall started, the organisers have managed to raise in excess of £400,000 to keep the Arboretum going.

TS Modwena Summer Mess Dinner

TS Modwena Summer Mess Dinner

Ashfield House in Burton on Trent was the venue for TS Modwena's Summer Mess Dinner on 04 July 2015. The Ship's company and committee hosted the Mayor of East Staffordshire, Councillor David Leese with his wife, Colonel Stow of the ACF and his wife and representatives from the ATC.

The meal started at 19:30 and followed the traditions of the Royal Navy.  On completion our guest speaker Admiral Soar, who was accompanied by Lady Soar, entertained all in attendance with his speech and jokes.

The evening concluded with up spirits to commemorate the anniversary of Black Tot Day, when the Royal Navy discontinued its tradition of issuing a tot of rum to all naval personnel

On an overcast, but dry May Bank Holiday Monday, Cadets, Staff and Committee were in attendance at the Transport Festival.  Cadets were employed assisting at the entrance gates and also car parking. Committee and Staff were manning the Fund raising/recruitment tent ably assisted by our Junior cadets.  Once again this annual event was a success, and the day finished on a High with cadets doing the Cha Cha slide with PO Shubrook.

Tower of London Poppies

Tower of London Poppies

Wednesday 26th November 2014 saw Staff and Cadets from TS Modwena up early to travel to London.  We had been invited to go to the Tower of London and help with the unplanting of the Ceramic Poppies.

The unit had applied to go and plant the poppies but were unsuccessful.  Then out of nowhere we received a phone call asking if we wanted to come and help removing the display.  Without a second thought we accepted.  PO Shubrook said it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and something the cadets would always remember.

After a long and productive day, as we were leaving, Tower Bridge raised and we saw HMS St Albans coming into the Pool of London.
