Success at CATSEA for Bradford Unit's Marine...

Bradford Unit's Marine Cadet Detachment joined others last weekend for their annual CATSEA inspection.  Our Marines came out with a Good rating.

Bradford's Detachment Commander, Sgt Toni Murch, gives the following brief explanation of the CATSEA process:-

"The Cadet Annual Training and Safety Assessment (CATSEA) is an annual test that replaced the Staff Officer Royal Marines assessment two years ago . The assessment is very much like the Sea Cadet's RNP. The cadets are in sections of eight and are given a set of NATO orders to extract at company level then the section commander (cpl Mitchell) has to create a model pit and a set of section orders for a patrol . After giving his orders the patrol sets off and at some point will come under fire . The section must react to this under the direction of the section commander who will make a battle appreciation and direct his troops to the next action be it to withdraw or fight through . This part of the test lasts around two hours and looks at reaction to effective fire , teamwork , and skills taught by staff .

Scores are made from Unsatisfactory , Satisfactory , Good and Very Good . This year we achieved a Good score . We know where we can improve and will strive to achieve a Very Good next year . However the result is fantastic for us and all the cadets who were very tired after a full day of training activities did exceptionally well.

I am very proud to be the detachment commander and to see the constant improvements in our cadets . A major chuck up for cpl Mitchell for his hard work throughout the weekend"
