Keel Laying Ceremony

Keel Laying Ceremony

On 18th May 2012 Bideford and District Sea Cadets attended a Keel Laying Ceremony at Babcock International Marine and Technology Division,  Appledore.  The keel is a large beam that runs along the middle of a ship from the bow to the stern, and it is around this that the hull of a ship is constructed.  The keel is normally the first part of the hull to be built and is therefore an important event and often marked with a ceremony.  Cadets and staff watched the laying of the keel for Ship AS.194 which will be completed in January 2014.  Following the ceremony the Sea Cadets were kindly presented with a promotional banner and goody bags.
