New Lord Lieutenant Cadet for Nottinghamshire...

Worksop Sea Cadet nominee, Leading Cadet Ryan Arnold, has offically been appointed as the SCC Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Nottinghamshire for 2015/2016.

Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant's are the local representatives of the Crown for each County in the United Kingdom. LC Arnold will accompany the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Sir John Peace, on his many engagements throughout the year of appointment, attending formal events and functions.

It was the Units' First Lieutenant, Chief Petty Officer (SCC) Lyndsey Sanderson, who submitted the nomination, detailing LC Arnold's many achievements in and outside of the Sea Cadets.

Leading Cadet Arnold is the second member of TS BENTINCK Ships' Company to hold the prestigious appointment. Former Sea Cadet, Leading Cadet Jamie Fox carried the title for 2008/2009.

On Monday 7th September, Worksop Sea Cadets & Royal Marines Cadets were presented with their new Burgee for 2015. The presetation of this Efficiency Award signifies that Worksop Sea Cadet Unit is one of the top Sea Cadet units within the UK.

A Burgee is only presented if the Unit achieves a high score following its annual Royal Navy Inspection. The Burgee, issued by the Sea Cadet Corps, follows the results of a very stringent examination of the Unit by a serving senior Royal Navy Officer together with a number of Senior Sea Cadet Corps Officers. The examination comprised of looking at the skills of the Cadets, the quality of the Staff, and the state of the Unit together with a presentation given by the Cadets based upon a theme, again chosen by the Cadets, that reflects their skills gained within the Sea Cadet Corps.

The Burgee was presented by Mr Tom Freemantle, Deputy Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire. Also in attendance, were Councillor Sybil Fielding, Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council and Councillor Gwynneth Jones, Chair of Bassetlaw District Council, together with a large number of Unit supporters.

Young Achievers Awards 2015

Congratulations to the cadets who received a number of awards in Retford which was hosted bt Bassetlaw Council. They all received individual accolades for their outstanding work at the unit: CATSEA Team for coming second in the Xray Company, PSgt Seeley for two advancements in a year and LC Arnold and LCpl Powell for coming top of their advancement board.

Congratulations to the shooting team, who came first in the Area Competition. In addition, MC1 Simcox came second in the individual section.

Worksop Sea Cadets performed a Standard Party in the Notts & Derby District Drill and Piping Competition on Saturday 30th November hosted by Chesterfield SCC. The Standard Party, which consisted of 5 cadets were the Standard Party winners and will go on to represent the District at the Area competition in January at Newark.

The Cadets have been training exceptionally hard over the last few months in preparation for the competition. Their hard work, hours of practise and determination paid off last Saturday when they won the District Standard Party Competition. Uniforms were impeccable, and the Standard Party display was exceptional and of a very high standard.

The team, lead and trained by POC S.Bloomfield, will now go on to the Area competition in January at Newark Showground representing Notts and Derby. Units from all Eastern Area will be competing in this competition to secure a place at the National Drill and Piping Competition at HMS RALEIGH so standards will be high.

In addition to coming home with a winning team trophy for their outstanding display, AC R.Arnold was announced Best Dressed Cadet in the District. This was an amazing achievement to receive this trophy, not only for AC Arnold but also for Worksop as this is the 3rd consecutive year they have won this award.

Worksop also entered, for the first time, a 6 plus 1 Junior Squad lead by J1C J.Hornagold and OC L.Sanderson represented the Unit in the Piping Competition. All cadets did extremely well. BZ Team.
