ESH COMMUNITIES VISIT WHITLEY BAY SEA CADETS

ESH COMMUNITIES VISIT WHITLEY BAY SEA CADETS

Thank you so much to Esh Communities who came to see us on 15 March 2015 and presented us with a very generous donation. Every penny will be reinvested in to our cadets so we can help to give them a great head start in life! Here's some of our cadets with the cheque! Thank you!

RED NOSE DAY CELEBRATION

RED NOSE DAY CELEBRATION

This years Red Nose Day coincided with our parade night so we decided to celebrate it in style and for every cadet who wore or painted their nose red, we pledged to donate £1.00 to Comic Relief. As grateful recipients of a Sport Relief grant which enabled our cadets to boat and stay overnight at Derwenthaugh Boat Station over two weekends last summer, we recognise how important it is to give back to the community. Whilst we didn't raise thousands, as the saying goes - every little helps! One of our kind hearted Junior Cadets surprised us all by baking cakes for us all to share too which were delicious.

During the weekend of 7 March 2015, lots of adult volunteers gave up their weekend to spend time with us as we hosted the Area seamanship course for instructors looking to improve and enhance their skills and expertise to pass on to their cadets. We hope they had a great experience at Whitley Bay and look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

JUNIORS VISIT TO LEEDS ROYAL ARMOURIES

JUNIORS VISIT TO LEEDS ROYAL ARMOURIES

On 21 February 2015, some of our Juniors travelled all the way down to Leeds with other junior cadets from the District to visit the Leeds Armouries

The Royal Armouries is Britain’s national museum of arms and armour and the collection consists of some 70,000 examples of arms, armour and artillery dating from antiquity to the present day. It includes royal armours of the Tudor and Stuart kings; arms and armour of the English Civil Wars, including the Armoury from Littlecote House; British and foreign military weapons from the Board of Ordnance and MOD Pattern Room collections; hunting and sporting weapons, as well as an exceptional collection of oriental arms and armour - we were kept very busy and had a great day!

HMS MERSEY TOUR

HMS MERSEY TOUR

On 15 March 2015, we were invited on to HMS Mersey for a special tour whilst she was docked in North Shields. We learned that HMS Mersey is the youngest of the original batch of River class patrol vessels. She patrols the waters of the UK and up to 200 miles in the Atlantic ensuring that fishing boats and trawlers stick to internationally-agreed quotas. We had a fantastic day and our thanks go to the crew who made us feel so welcome. You can see more photos of our visit on our Facebook page.
