CHANGE OF COMMAND

CHANGE OF COMMAND

Once again, command of TS Hermes is changing.

PO (SCC) Paul Andrews and family are moving to the Plymouth area. He will no longer be able to run the unit. Of course, he is reluctant to step down but job changes have made this unavoidable.

From the end of the year, Chief Petty Officer (SCC) Nikki Chubb will assume command of the unit. CPO (SCC) Chubb is well known to cadets and staff having served as Training Officer for several years.

Not only are we losing PO (SCC) Andrews but also Mrs Vanessa Andrews who has done amazing work as our Stores Officer (as well as assisting with Expedition Training). Furthermore we will lose their son AC Al Andrews. Our sincere thanks for all the good work this family has put in over an extended period and our very best wishes for the future.

Despite her experience on the unit, CPO (SCC) Chubb will need the full support of the cadets and staff as she takes over. Early next year we have competitions and inspections to tackle so it will be a busy time. Our congratulations and our best wishes for a long and successful appointment as Officer in Charge.

EASYFUNDRAISING THIS CHRISTMAS

EASYFUNDRAISING THIS CHRISTMAS

We raised £5.24 for the unit in the last quarter through shopping online through easyfundraising. At the moment only a few supporters are using the scheme and we could raise much more if more people took part.

With Christmas coming many of our parents and supporters will be shopping online anyway. You can help raise money for the unit by making your purchases through easyfundraising.org.uk and it WON'T COST YOU A PENNY!

Go to easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/tivertonunittheseacadets and follow the easy steps to sign up. You can even download a toolbar that brings up a reminder when you search for a supplier registered with easyfundraising - and almost all the big suppliers are. And it is not only gifts, clothing, food and things for the home you can get. Travel, hotels, office equipment and more are now available through easyfundraising.

REMEMBRANCE DAY PARADE 2013

REMEMBRANCE DAY PARADE 2013

Sunday 10th November saw Tiverton commemorate the fallen in two world wars and the conflicts since.

Tiverton Sea Cadets took part in the parade to St Peter's Church, attended the remembrance service and marched back to the Town Hall. There, Able Cadet Adam Cleal laid a wreath, on behalf of the Sea Cadet Corps, on the wall of the British Legion and the parade dismissed.

The police were unable to control the traffic this year so some of our staff assisted in this role.

Afterwards, most of the contingent accepted the invitation of the Royal British Legion to a buffet lunch at their club. There we were able to talk to the captain and representatives of HMS Enterprise, our affiliated ship, and many others who took part in the parade.

We had a good turn out and the Sea Cadets looked very smart on parade. Several dignitaries complimented us on our participation. Well done!

POPPY APPEAL COLLECTION 2013

POPPY APPEAL COLLECTION 2013

Tiverton Sea Cadets have traditionally supported the Royal British Legion in raising money for ex-servicemen (and women).

This year we turned out on Saturday 26th October and collected for the Poppy Appeal on pretty much every corner in Tiverton.

The public was as generous as usual and the weather was also quite kind. In all we collected £637.26 for this very worthwhile cause.

We have already been thanked by the Royal British Legion for our efforts. Well done all those who took part.

DEVON DISTRICT SWIMMING GALA

DEVON DISTRICT SWIMMING GALA

We sent a small team of four cadets to the Devon District Swimming Gala 2013, which took place at HMS Raleigh on Saturday 13th September.

Between them they won three 1st places, one 2nd place and one 3rd place and they were up with the leaders in every race we entered.

Our Senior Boys (Hunter and Baz) won their group and were presented with a Certificate of Achievement. Overall we tied for 3rd place (with Bideford). Congratulations to Plymouth Drake Unit who were the overall winners.

Even more important, our cadets had a fun weekend at HMS Raleigh and had a chance to meet and socialise with cadets from other units.

Well done to those who took part and let's have more entries next year.
