Feb 24th - New venture for TS Roebuck

13 February 2023

Feb 24th 2023 sees a new venture for TS Roebuck as we open our satellite Royal Marines Cadet Detachment in The Taunton Academy. The detachment will be open to pupils from The Taunton Academy but will be part of our unit and our current detachment. Cadets will parade at Taunton Academy after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will parade with the main detachment through the holidays. We are really excited to be able to offer our fantastic opportunities to even more young people in the Taunton area.

Despite a tremendous effort the RM cadets were pipped at the post and came in as runners up in their competition. This was a stirling effort as it was a few years since we had entered the troop competition and was the first time competing for all the RM cadets. Now they know what to expect, look out next year.

Both our senior sea cadet drill team and our Royal Marines cadets drill teams were in action at the district drill competitions at HMS Raleigh recently. After months of training the sea cadet squad competed against cadets from across the Somerset & Dorset district and emerged as worthy winners of the unarmed section with AC Eva also winning best squad commander.

The sea cadet team now go forward to represent the Somerset and Dorset district in the unarmed section of the South West Area drill competition in March.

UKHO Families Day

UKHO Families Day

Last Saturday cadets were invited to attend the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office Families Day.

As the UKHO gave the unit a home for 16 years, we were delighted to be invited back.

The weather was very kind and the cadets had a great day showing off what they do and also trying all the different attractiions on offer.
