Pre-RNP 2018

Pre-RNP 2018

This evening, we have our Pre-RNP. This is when a member of the District team attends our parade night to see if we are prepared for our Royal Naval Parade, which is being held in October 2018.

Our cadets turned out in full, with six partaking in the guard and five partaking in the duty crew. Completing the ceremonial section, they were praised for their self-discipline, as well as their smart and seamanlike appearence. Following this, the cadets began piecing their evolutions together to create the event for the evening.

Our cadets paraded proudly and showed the District that T.S. Sutton Coldfield are gaining headway as we head towards our Royal Naval Parade.

National Combined Regatta 2018

National Combined Regatta 2018

This weekend, our Open Boys Rowing Team atteneded the National Competition held at the Excel Center in London.

With Rowing Training once a week, they completed additional fitness sessions to prepare themselves for the competition. Working together and motivating each other each step of the way, they arrived to the day of the National Competition nervous.

After a losing a crutch and striking a buoy, the Open Boys team pulled through and won their first race. After a small break, they returned to the water to complete their second race.

After a fault with one of the crutch plates, which ensured the rowers could row, the team was now down to three rowers. Pulling together, under guidance of the coxswain, they successfully won their second race.

With tensions running high heading into the final race, they faced the contenders for first, second and third place. With a powerful start, they took the lead. One of their competitors pulled back into the race as they matched our Open Boys' speed. Neck-and-neck until the end, our Open Boys found the energy and pushed through the tiredness and fatigue to cross the finish line.

Taking the gold and the National Trophy, they made South West Area Proud, Warwickshire proud and Sutton Coldfield Unit Proud.

Three-Lake Challenge

Three-Lake Challenge

Over the past weekend, Friday 17th August 2018 - Sunday 20th August 2018, four volunteers from T.S. Sutton Coldfield (Sutton Coldfield Unit) took on the Three-Lake Challenge.

What started as an idea between friends quickly become a reality as a fundraiser for their unit. The four volunteers took upon the challenge which spanned from Wales to England to Scotland as they started in Lake Bala, kayaking 7 miles, before moving onto Windermere, kayaking 11 miles, and finally heading up to Loch Awe, kayaking 25 miles. Completing all three lakes in just over 15 hours, kayaking 43 miles and raising over £500 whilst doing so is a huge accomplishment for the volunteers and the unit alike.

On the final day, when kayaking Loch Awe, defeat stared them in the face as they took a break roughly 12 miles in. Discussions were had to whether or not they could finish the challenge. After reading through the Sutton Coldfield Sea Cadet Facebook Page, as well as the GoFundMe comments, they continued on determined to see the challenge through to the end. Such an achievement is one to be remembered by all involved.

They wouldn't have been able to complete this task without the support from staff and cadets across the whole of South West Area.

Parent Fun Day 2018

Parent Fun Day 2018

Today, we opened our doors to the supporters, parents and guardians of the cadets that give our unit life! They were given the option to kayack, sail, windsurf, powerboat and row over the course of the day!

With each person involved, it allowed the parents to see what their children get to experience each time they come down the unit! It provided insight, fun and a all around good day for the staff and parents involved!

Community Games 2018

Community Games 2018

This year, T.S. Sutton Coldfield took part once again in the annual Sutton Coldfield Community Games! Here, we had drill examples as well as gave small seamanship sessions to passers by!

Our cadets were out on the offence as they approched and engaged with members of the community, getting them to complete our tasks and spreading the word of what T.S. Sutton Coldfield does!

BZ to all the cadets involved!
