Cadets from TS Gurkha invited parents, friends and supporters to celebrate a fantastic 12 months of achievement at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Cadets aged between 10 and 18 received a variety of awards including Best Male and Female Cadets, Specialisation and Most Improved Cadet.

This was the first time in many years that TS Gurkha had held such an event. ‘Our cadets have done so well this year, gaining many qualifications between them and taking part in competitions.’ explained Lt Roger Edmunds, Officer in Charge ‘The unit was recognised nationally by Sea Cadets UK at our biannual inspection when we were awarded a Burgee so it seemed that this was the right time to re-introduce an awards ceremony to acknowledge what individual cadets have accomplished.’

The Awards evening was supported by the NFU Mutual Community Giving fund and Simon Allen Associates with individual Awards being sponsored by Wright Engineering (Best Female Cadet awrded to Ordinary Cadet Molly Edmunds), Three Seas Electrical (Best Male Cadet awarded to Ordinary Cadet Lewis Wasley), Summit GB (Best Dressed Cadet – Awarded to Able Cadet Charlotte Drinkwater) and Everyone Active (Rowing Award – Awarded to Cadet First Class Kara Cooke).

‘We really appreciate the support given by all of the local businesses that contributed to the evening’ said Karen Drinkwater, Chair of the UMT. ‘and it was brilliant that some of them joined us on the evening to meet the cadets and award the trophies.’

Other winners included Junior Cadet First Class Keitlin Halford (Best Junior Cadet), Cadet Alice Greenwell (Kayaking Award), Ordinary Cadet Beth Moss (Specialisation Award) and New Entry Cadet Joe Betts (Most Improved Cadet). Individual cadets were also present with their Record of Achievement – a certificate detailing their progress within the Sea Cadet Corp.

Able Cadets Thomas Floyd and Charlotte Drinkwater presented the Staff Award, chosen by all of the cadets, to APO Steph Drinkwater, but also thanked all of the uniformed staff for the work they do and the time they give.
