New Unit Build- 03/09/2014

New Unit Build- 03/09/2014

After months of hard work by the staff and cadets of our unit, we are proud to reveal our new premises, which we will be moving into immediately. The buildings were very generously donated by Portakabin a few months ago, however they were in such a state of disrepair that they weren't fit for use straight away; to fix this a team of our staff and cadets have spent the majority of their weekends for the last few months sawing, drilling, painting, and working on the buildings to turn them into the unit we have today. Their hard work has paid off, as now for the first time in years we have a place that we can call our own and the space we need to properly teach classes, and their work will be enjoyed by cadets for years to come. A massive thanks you to everybody that contributed to this project, as we truly couldn't have done it without you.

L1 Zipwire Challenge- 29/08/2014

L1 Zipwire Challenge- 29/08/2014

In an effort to raise money for their training a group of our cadets decided to get sponsored to be hurtled down Church Street on an 800ft long zipwire! The cadets started their journey by climbing up 180 steps to the top of the launch tower where they waited excitedly to be clipped in; one by one they sped down the street at up to 40mph before being caught at the other end (well, the ones that didn't get stuck in the middle at least). A special mention to Cadet Kiiam Higham-Moran, who managed to raise a fantastic £150!

Annual Summer Ball- 12/07/2014

Annual Summer Ball- 12/07/2014

On Saturday our unit hosted our much anticipated annual summer ball. In keeping with tradition, guests were treated to a buffet and live entertainment before taking to the dance floor for the rest of the night. These events help us to raise valuable funds for the unit which provide training and equipment for our cadets, and from this ball alone we managed to raise over £1000!

Boating- 24/06/2014

Boating- 24/06/2014

Since the beginning of the boating season our cadets have been parading at Liverpool District Boating Station once a week, having a go at all of the boating activities our unit has on offer. The cadets have done activities such as sailing, kayaking, rowing, and power boating; these taster sessions allowing them to decide which sports they would like to pursue qualifications in in the future (as well as taking full advantage of the sunshine whilst we still have it!).

International Mersey River Festival- 07/06/2014

International Mersey River Festival- 07/06/2014

Our unit's marching band was recently asked to perform for the first time at the International Mersey River Festival. Over the course of the day the band did over ten performances, both marching and static, and if the size of the crowds we drew were anything to go by they seemed to go down very well with the public! As well as performing the members of our band were able to explore the festival and see all of the other attractions on offer, such as the samba parade and various musical performances including one by the band of HM Royal Marines.
