The Unit held its annual Christmas Carol Concert on Monday 17th December 2012 in the Chapel of St. Andrew in the Southampton Seafarers Centre.

The traditional service of Carols and readings was brought to a close this year with the enrolment of eleven new cadets in to the Corps.

After a short light refreshment break the evening moved in to presentation mode where the gathered Parents, Family Members, Friends and Committee Members were given a musical photographic show using photographs of numerous events and activities taken during 2012. This was then followed by the unit band playing their competition winning musical set.

The evening then moved on to the bit that the cadets wait for the Presentation of Annual Awards, which this year saw the addition of some new awards with two specifically for band members.

The traditional raffle brought the evening and the year to a close as this was the last parade night of 2012.

Q: How do you get eight cadets in to and out of a Ford Mondeo?

A: Hand them over to Hampshire & Rescue Service.

Thursday 29th November 2012, Hightown Fire Station Southampton

Eight cadets aged 15 - 17 years old attended the TRAPT (Teenage Road Accident Prevention Training) course, at Hightown Fire Station.

Following a presentation, including videos on the cause and effect of irresponsible road safety they got to inspect and trial the cutting gear and specialist power tools used to extract people from cars involved in accidents.

The last exercise of the evening was for the cadets to actually experience an actual extraction, after donning safety gear they ALL got in to one car and then the Fire Service cut the roof off. The driver was the last to be extracted and was taken out on a spinal support board.

An extremely well put together course and very thought provoking.
