District Paddle Sports

District Paddle Sports

Today we had the district paddling competition at Dartford. In addition to the normal races there was also a water polo competition held with each unit supplying a team of 4 or joining to make a team. Cdt Jennings won the junior boys 1 mile with AC Reeves coming 3rd, AC Snook won the open boys 2 mile, AC Jeferies won the open girls 2 mile and 800M & AC Reeves won the Junior boys 500m. In the water polo Sheppey played a joint team of Gravesend and Westerham who they beat 5-0. They then went on to play Medway Towns in the final who had beaten Dartford in their 1st match 2-1. This was a much better game with both teams getting a grip of the rules but the great teamwork of the Sheppey cadets along with their speed and manoeuvrability allowed them to get close to the Medway goal on many occasions and managed to score 2 goals. This would have been quite a few more but their goalie was very good and kept blocking most of the shots. This was a great way to end the day and the cadets are looking forward to doing again. Hopefully next year it will become part of the competition and progress to Area & National Levels.

All at Sea on a Yole

All at Sea on a Yole

The CO attending the first sliding seat rowing course to learn how to rig and use a yole in the single and double positions. This was held at Weymouth National Training Centre. Lt Brian Moore ended up in the water with Lt Cdr Mike English while practicing some balance and confidence exercises. Standing on the gunwhales of a boat and then rocking it is not a great idea when the water is that cold!
