Awards Presented For TS Kingfisher Volunteers

Awards Presented For TS Kingfisher Volunteers

This weekend, at the South West Area Sea Cadet Conference, TS Kingfisher's commanding officer, SLt Lisa Wood, was presented with an Area Officer's Commendation for her 'committment and dedication in command of Redditch and Bromsgrove Unit.'  It really is fantastic that our commanding officer has been recognised in this way for all that she has done and continues to do for our unit.  Congratulations Ma'am!

Whilst at the conference SLt Wood also had the pleasure of accepting a runner up nomination certificate for the McCaroll Trophy, on behalf of  Sgt (SCC) Oli (James) Wilkins.  This is awarded to a RMC Officer or instructor each year for outstanding personal achievement. This is also well deserved recognition.  Congratulations Sgt Wilkins!

Seamanship and Meteorology

Seamanship and Meteorology

This weekend cadets TS Kingfisher have been running Meteorology and Seamanship courses at the unit.

In Meteorology the cadets learnt all about why weather and weather forecasting is important in relation to the activities we undertake at sea cadets. They've also learnt about humidity, air pressure, wind, the instruments used to take weather measurements and how to take and record different measurements on a weather observation form. They had a go at making their own weather instrument too.

Those completing the Seamanship explored some of the many things you can do with ropes and knots.

15th October - Trafalgar Day Parade

15th October - Trafalgar Day Parade

Redditch and Bromsgrove Sea Cadets attended the annual Warwickshire District Trafalgar Parade in Stratford-upon-Avon this weekend.

Celebration of Trafalgar Day (21st October) is a Sea Cadet and Naval tradition commemorating Nelson's victory over the combined French and Spanish fleets in 1805 and is celebrated by parades and dinners throughout the UK during October.

Our cadets joined others from units across the Warwickshire District for drill practice in the Recreation Ground Carpark before changing into their Number 1 uniforms.  The cadets then paraded from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, through the town watched from the Town Hall balcony by the Warwickshire Lord Lieutenant, Tim Cox and VIP Royal Navy Guest Commodore Mel Robinson.

After an inspection of the cadets, a Trafalgar Day Service was attended at Holy Trinity Church before  a salute was taken by the Mayor, Lord Lieutenant and Commodore Robinson.

Redditch & Bromsgrove Cadets were a credit to the organisation, looking splendid in the sunshine and parading with pride. A fantastic day for all!
